Voting is now closed, according to Lyra Jane's schedule, and I have sent her the results.
Bureaucracy 3: Oh, so now you want to be part of the SOLUTION?
A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.
Current Stompy Feet: ita, Jon B, DXMachina, P.M. Marcontell, Liese S., amych
And these are the results, from Lee's email:
99 people voted in all. 27 of them voted for no new thread. 3 of these people also voted for one or more shows.
Here are the shows voted for, and the number of votes for each:
Lost (54), The OC (21), The Daily Show (13), Gilmore Girls (13), The Amazing race (12), Alias (12), Veronica Mars (12), Joan of Arcadia (11), 24 (8), Dead Like Me (6), Survivor (4).
No show in the "other" category was entered more than once. the list was nip/tuck, Showtime Sunday night (Dead like me, Huff, Queer as Folk, The L word) , Stargate, Adult Swim, Smallville, Gilligan's Island, All Reality Shows, Sopranos, America's next top model, CSI, Kevin Hill, Desperate Housewives, and "All of them." If I count "Showtime Sunday night" as a vote for Dead Like Me, and "All reality shows" as a vote for Survivor and The Amazing Race, it still doesn't really impact the results.
Based on that, the proposal will definitely include a Lost thread. I'm also leaning towards including The OC, because it is in second place and I suspect it will get more support once the new season starts. (And, okay, because I really like the show. No one said proposals had to be selfless, and it can still be voted down.)
Do I need to do the proposal/seconds thing again, or can we just go back into lightbulbs?
When does The O.C. start? I checked the website. They have a countdown clock. The O.C. premieres on November 4, 2004.
Is your proposal still going to include closing existing threads?
Is your proposal still going to include closing existing threads?
Probably, yeah. I see it as what Kerry would call a "pay as you go" thing -- if we want to limit our total number of threads for both technical and ease-of-use reasons, we need to eliminate outdated threads before we start new ones. But if the techies tell me it's irrelevant, or the will of the people seems to be that it's not something to vote on, I'll take it out.
I am going to include the clause that if the show is canceled, the thread goes bye-bye.
The one surprise for me was how highly Gilmore Girls placed, because AFAIK no one has ever suggested an independent thread for it.
Wow. More than half the voters wanted Lost. Coolness.
It'd be interesting to see how this gets sorted out in a proposal. If as many as 54 people are willing to participate in the discussion of the show (although a good proportion of these may be the ones who were annoyed by the wf from natter), maybe a single dedicated thread would be the way to go. Then it could be made NAFDA, which will eliminate the white-font issue. Plus, it's got Fury, so there you have the ME connection, and I think it can even fall under 'genre TV' umbrella.
If seconds are needed, I'll provide one.
Count me as a third (if needed).
Forthded!
Particularly since I watched Lost for the first time last night - 4 eps in a row. Wheeeeee, I love how you guys corrupt me. First time I have made time for televised entertainment in a while. So worth the time.

For what it's worth, I'll fifth the motion.
Lost is one of the few shows that's worth it to watch that is not included in some reality or crime/law genre. It stays interesting and the speculation on all the character's backstories and future plot twists could be endless.
If I'm fourthed, I should probably put a proposal on the table. The draft would be:
Based on the results of the poll, these are the two shows there seems to be sufficient interest to start a thread in. Any threads started under this vote will be closed if the show is cancelled, unless there is a unique and compelling reason to keep it open.
