Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

From the google site:

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."

Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query.

I don't see how the number of hits can factor in, since this is information that Google wouldn't have.

Altering a PageRank. GoogleBombing, takes a whole lot of pages that Google lends credence to. Not easy. There's an effort underway to GoogleBomb the current #1 hit for jew, and although it seems lots of people are participating, nothing yet.

What is even happening?

I am not sure if that's what I meant or not. I just meant googling Wonderfalls, and on the google page, then selecting every page that isn't ours. Wouldn't google know what we select from their own site? Regardless, now that you've explained the stuff above, I can see it would be like a tear drop in the ocean.

For "jew"? To what end, do you know?

That was to Sue, actually.

To what end, do you know?

Try the search. You'll see.

hip deep in pie

I thnk I was confused about the part where page ranking gives more weight to the link. I knew there was something about popularity.

Please tell me the GoogleBombing is to remove the number one hit, not reinforce it.

It is. The antisemitic site, jewwatch dot com, has been the highest rank for about 3 years. Someone finally made this known publicly about a month ago, and they are now trying to push the Wikipedia page for Jew higher by putting a link to it under the word Jew on as many web pages as possible.

jewfaq.org is already number 2. It is a very good, informative site (sort of Judiasm 101). Are people trying to push that one up, too?

I don't know. I'm guessing the Wiki entry is probably a page that has broader appeal because it's simply an encyclopedic entry.

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

So, for the WF spoiler thread title, are we doing Pig Latin or Lovesick, my Ass?

Our wings are not tired.

Still love the pig latin.
