soooo very tired. I got Kristi'ns email at 730 ish in the moring called her ( not at 730)and calculated that I could be at her hotel betwee 9 and 930. all the way in on BART I was trying to figure out if I had been any where near acurate. 9:36 for those of you that were wondering. we had a big breakfast ( finally coffee) and talked and talked and talked. It was nice to talk to someoe who knew what I was talking about when I talked about CT. We then drove up to Deb's - only with a tiny miss of a street ( Kristin showed off her Boston Driving Skills). Hung out with everyone 'til everyone arrived. Then 11 of us went to wine coutry - 3 cars. I rode up with Nilly, Bev, and driver Deb. I got to talk with Bev , which was really nice. Deb narrated the drive -- and I learned a few new things and got to add my own knowledge of wine country here and there. - What I really hope for iNlly is that somehow whe she is back east she gets to see how differently things grow there -- in a dense, almost jungle-like,lush way. It is so Sparse here in comparison.
I don't think ayone bought anything at the first winery -- but I know I will be... The into St Helena's for olive oil and Lunch. (Lunch deserves an "L" --some of us were very hungry and it was very good.) Olive oil was bought along with some other goodies ( Katie B - you may find some artichoke / white Truffle Tapanade in your car)
then onto Charles Krug. there were very happy to see us -- 7 tried wine. I don't know if all 7 of us bought, but I think most did. I hear our steward/server/wine pourer say very happyily -- but I had to open another bottle- there were 7 of them. I wonder if he was talking about that zinfindel port that he served with chocolate. Such blissful looks....
on the way back - we mixed things up -- so I drove with SFMarty and Nilly ( I was a Nilly hog). We came back on a different route and really saw some beautiful sights...
Back to Deb's where I got to meet Deena and Nicole! I was't sure if I would -- others were there but ames are escapeig me.but not Katie B -- because Horray! she drove me home so I didn't have to Bart with my box o' bottles of wine. I am sure I have more to say , but my cats need me ( that's an excuse) and I am very tired.
You know, I'm going to repeat Allyson's advice: take Nilly shopping with you. We bought some kosher macaroons but they were the Wrong Kind (which we ate with some delight). I think Deb has the sheet of proper kosher symbols, but it's a tricky business for us goyim.
For the rest, as Hec says, just take Nilly to the grocery store, and she'll pick up what she feels like having.
Nora is going to do this. I am just bringing over a bottle of wine to Tom and Nora's, in the I-was-dragged-up-right by-my-folks way, and it's nice to bring something everyone can have, should they so choose.
Deb, if there is a specific hechsher to look for on wine, please let me know. If not, I'll see what one is on the Maneishevitz.
I got Nilly the Concord Grape Maneishevitz for Seder and that was fine. The Blackberry Maneishevitz was not. She only uses a wee bit, so unless you love sweet wine, get the little bottle.
This is good to know, thanks.
Matt, are you driving in? Flying in? I probably can't meet you early, because my getting-to-Nora&Tom's time is up in the air (depending on when Scott gets home). I'm just nosy. Do you know your way around Somerville? When do you expect to get into town? Where are you staying?
I'm flying in, theoretically arriving at Logan at 5:44 pm. Hopefully that'll give me enough time to get to Back Bay, freshen up, and make it to Somerville by the time the party gets underway. I think I should be able to make it out there unassisted with Nora's directions, but I may throw myself on the mercy of a Sommervillian for a ride back if the proceedings go on late enough that the subway's not running.
hey-
just checking- I *think* we have proper kosher party goodies (but delicious for everyone else if not the case- but I had the sheet and checked against the TJ's list) but will of course be Shopping With Nilly this afternoon.
Also, just wanted to double (or possibly triple) check that it is OK to serve stuff out of glass bowls. Just trying to work out hostessing issues.
Nora! Where are you? A parking space has been procured. Probably best to meet me at my office. What's the best way to get you details?
e me at yahoo or rainoftoads.
I am at work at MIT. So, I'd be hopping on the train at Kendall.
Make her an omelet. That works very well indeed.
Don't have a kosher omelett pan. But, deb, what of glass vessels for serving party goodies?
Don't have a kosher omelett pan.
Can't you just clean it and dip in into a big pot of boiling water, or something? Nilly will Know.
