I just don't see why anyone would want to go to a whole other country to get married. Everyone talks funny and the buildings are all really run-down and think of all the money you're taking away from the American wedding industry. It's positively traitorous.

I was in a wedding last year where the couple did that. The bride, who had immigrated from Ireland, wanted to get married in the church of her childhood.

Jessica, it's not the marrying in Scotland we're protesting; it's the fact that the location is keeping you away from us.

The plus side of marrying in a whole different country would be that many of your relatives might not be able to make it.

Well, we haven't seen beth and Matt, Suela, or Java Cat in this thread lately, but they've all offered to host people in the past. It's a pretty safe bet that reasonably comfy space somewhere, with some localista, will surely and certainly be found for everyone.
