I don't think it's fair to ask people who would like to have extra attractions available to forego them to "protect" folks who wouldn't and can't trust themselves to pass up the temptation of non-Buffista activities.
Nobody's asking them too. He was just stating, that when deciding which city he, himself and only himself would prefer, he'd more than likely pick one that didn't have as much stuff to do. He's not asking for NOLA to be taken out, he is stating a personal preference. That's all.
One thing for NOLA - we probably won't startle the locals.
And where's the fun in that? Iowa, people!
It didn't seem to be an issue with any of the other major cities.
See, I see the amazing location as a bonus. Not an argument for going to a less attraction rich locale so the attraction rich Buffistas aren't a competing issue.
I think a balance can be easily struck by bringing Buffistas along to the attractions- or not if not all of us are attracted by the same bright shiny things.
For example, I'm not a bar hopper/live music expert. I'd ask some of my local friends who are for expertise as to best bets. But if the Buffistas are headed there, I'll decide whether I want to go and hang or seek an alternative quieter venue with other like minded-istas if there are any.
Iowa? Pshaw. I say we hold the next F2F in one of this year's F2F hotel co-habitors' Baptist chuches.
What?
If I go to NOLA for the F2F I feel like I will have to choose between hangin' with the 'istas or seeing the city. Since the reason I would go to the F2F in NOLA is the F2F...I would not be seeing the city.
I don't think it's an either/or proposition. Seeing Buffistas will be immeasurably enhanced by New Orleans. They will complement each other beautifully. There will be many incredible meals had in the city
with
Buffistas. Buffistas made excursions in every city we've gone to - same with NO. It will be
more
fun to share New Orleans with Buffista-ness. Prom is one night where the focus will shift, but folks can go out before that for dinner like we always have. And since New Orleans stays open so late, folks could easily go out very late into the night after Prom if they chose.
All the things Buffistas like to do? Ever so much more so fun in New Orleans.
He's not asking for NOLA to be taken out, he is stating a personal preference. That's all.
Perhaps it's the fact that he was stating it again, and again, and yet again in a short space of time that made me mistake it for a position argument rather than a simple notation of personal preference.
That may have been my fault since I was trying to convince him it would be otherwise.
Perhaps it's the fact that he was stating it again, and again, and yet again in a short space of time that made me mistake it for a position argument rather than a simple notation of personal preference.
And perhaps that's because I kept getting "But..but...but..." responses that were addressed to me but not addressing my point.

He was answering questions when people asked why.
Hmm. This might be the opportune time to kick off the "Toronto in '05: We'll bore your asses so much you'll cling to each other like koalas!" campaign.
It might not be strictly true, but y'know, some corner of the vote is better than no corner.
