In spite of the fact the AC was cranked to the max, the room was stifling with the heat of bodies in motion. Part of the crowd drifted outside onto the roof terrace, where a crescent moon rode the sky on a cool and welcome breeze. JavaCat was busy taking glamour shots of the attendees, and talk eddied and flowed, as did the people, between the hospitality suite and the terrace. It was here one was able to get full-length views of some of the outfits, notably: DebetEsse's corset and go-to-hell hat, complete with veil, cocked over one eye. Anne W's sophisticated flowy black pants and spaghetti strap camisole, topped by the silver-spangled black cobweb stole she'd been knitting for days. Raquel's corset, with garters clipped to her skirt to lift it, exposing the colored crinolines beneath, and her lace bolero and fabulously piled hairdo. JavaCat's champagne satin sheath, simple elegance, Trudy's purple silk sheath, appliqued with bugle beads and sequins, Teppy's elegant black dress, Deb's flowing black number, fanny-wrapped with a multicolored satin scarf, and her tiara of pearls and golden flowers. Ginger's black pants and top, with a sheer cobalt shirt and glitter in her hair. Vortex's tulle ballskirt and corset in shimmering weft threads of red and warp threads of green. Shira's taffeta ballskirt and "Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!" tee. Jess changed not once but twice, first into a short, asymmetrical leather skirt, shiny tights and a bustier, the second time into a print velvet sheath that fit like a slinky skin and set off her gorgeous complexion. KateP changed from an Indian silk dress with embroidered shoes to match into heavy boots and a ball skirt and corset, complete with matching hotpink mitts and maribou boa. JZ's amazing polkadot corset and black skirt was switched for a hot little black sheath, skirt split to here and laced across the body with ribbon straps. The Empress and smonster also changed outfits midstream, as did others I'm sure I'm neglecting to mention. Brendon was talked into changing his shirt and tie for a gorgeous Hawaiian shirt, and JohnSweden switched out his Indian cotton suit for jeans and tshirt, both of which set off his pearl tiara surprisingly well. NoiseDesign's brocade and leather looked just as fabulous by the end of the evening as it had started.
Fashion show aside, I was pleased to talk to people, overhear snatches of intriguing conversations, join some of those, get swept away from others. I was overcome periodically by proximity to so many humans, but it was manageable, and overall I enjoyed the evening more than I'd thought possible. The awarding of Class Protector medals was misty-making, and everyone receiving one wore it with pride. Deena did an absolute kickass job on the women's beaded chokers. I hope someone set her pictures of Java and Lee wearing theirs, but we really wished she could be there in person to see for herself.
(There will be more, evertually. Be afraid.)
