LotR - The Return of the King: "We named the *dog* 'Strider'".

Frodo: Please, what does it always mean, this... this "Aragorn"? Elrond: That's his name. Aragorn, son of Arathorn. Aragorn: I like "Strider." Elrond: We named the *dog* "Strider".

A discussion of Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King. If you're a pervy hobbit fancier, this is the place for you.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yay for the sweep! Yay for the cute hobbits all in a row! Yay for fantasy slipping past the blind eye of the academy!

(And also yay for Johnny Depp who has the smirkingest non-winning smirk ever)

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I think Sean and Billy (oh, but mostly Billy) did great jobs. It's hard for me to say for the others, because I was used to the jobs they'd been doing. So if they'd rocked in FotR, they'd raised their own bar already.

Art Crawl!!!

Woo hoo for the Sweep.

It makes sense that stor=big because the date on that picture is 1932 -- so it's probably VM's father. (If only I had remembered the date on the photo earlier.)

Yeah, Sean and Billy were both extraordinary in RotK.

Oh, and what was that about Chicago Weta?

There is a branch of Weta in Chicago? I want to work there! I'm not sure what I could do . . . .

move out and draw fire

I think it's a bar/restaurant, where the Weta guys were hanging out watching the awards.

I don't think I've ever watched through the whole Awards, but I had to see it win Best Picture.

billytea speaks for me. I'm so blissed for them. Barry Osbourne was the only recipient to thank the fans, so yay Barry!

I used to watch all the movies, and watch the awards scrupulously and with a (possibly inflated) sense of what should win. But I got lazy, and movies got depressing.

This year I'd seen very few, but damn if I didn't stay glued to my screen for 12 awards (all the RotK ones plus Keisha), and dude -- never before have movies I cared about won so many awards.

It was pretty much just the one movie this time, though.

Yay!!!

I think the most gracious and sweetest person I saw win for LotR was Annie Lennox - she seemed so honestly grateful. The funniest thing was seeing Peter in the press room after the ceremony (on E!) say that he would do it all over again starting tomorrow. He will have that tape played back for him and wonder just what drugs he was on.

Everyone at my Oscar party HATED ME. There were no big LotR fans there and they were bored - while I was cheering through the whole thing. (I also won the pool - by a lot. woot.) I can't believe it really. I am finally tired of the award shows, tired of hearing the same little fact nuggets about the films over and over - but when I think back to first hearing about the movies when they were just being cast - I never thought they would end up being so hugely rewarded by the industry. Or this financially successful.

Sean Astin's tear-filled eyes on stage when they won Best Picture did kind of break everyone in the room. Leave it to him.

I liked the tears welling in Elijah's eyes. I couldn't help thinking he looked so clean.

Foxtrot.

Art Crawl!!!

I can't believe it either -- and I totally get where PJ was coming from -- I'm so glad somebody asked about the Hobbit!

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

Yeah, that was sweet. My favorite thing about awards shows is happy people.
