I always thought the name Serenity had a vaguely funereal sound to it.

LotR - The Return of the King: "We named the *dog* 'Strider'".

Frodo: Please, what does it always mean, this... this "Aragorn"? Elrond: That's his name. Aragorn, son of Arathorn. Aragorn: I like "Strider." Elrond: We named the *dog* "Strider".

A discussion of Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King. If you're a pervy hobbit fancier, this is the place for you.

Nobody

Well, the folk I know who didn't read the books and saw the film all got it--including my teenage nieces and nephews and a friend who not only didn't read the books, she didn't really like the first movie o much and had to be coaxed to see the last two. I was surprised by this, as I myself thought it wasn't that clear to non-readers.

Another non-book-reader here. Don't forget that if you haven't read the books and don't know that Frodo is leaving, it packs much more of a punch (similar to that felt by Sam and Mippen) when you realise that he's going too.

I got it: it isn't really spelled out explicitely until Frodo talks to Sam, but there are lots of little clues, which obviously weren't enough for some people, though.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

Ooh! Thanks for the link to the horsie book, sumi. You have just solved the dilemma of what to get my stepmom for Mother's Day.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

No problem. She's already weeping openly at previews for Hidalgo, so I think the book will be a hit. Now, to think of what on earth to get for biomom.

Just think, there may be pictures of the horse from Hidalgo in the book.

You will be the best Step-Daughter EVAH!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

BAFTA pics.

I loooove the ones of Ian and Jude.

I saw clips of them accepting Best Film and Best Adapted Screenplay. And Fran Walsh continues to be the most adorable woman ever.
