CV, that was my reaction too. I was pleasantly unspoiled for this book and in fact, though
I had a thought that someone would die, I had no real info on that point.
it being Dumbledore was sort of heartbreaking. Inevitable and heartbreaking all in one.
also, not fully convinced (and I don't want to be convinced, quite frankly) that Snape did it on Dumbledore's request. I'm kinda hoping that he is just evil, which I could be good with. Because the vision of Dumbledore's own trust/willingness to believe in goodness as is downfall is somewhat more appealling to me.
Also
I had hopes that Neville (who was also tagged in the prophecy from the last one, correct), would be more important. But alas, not yet.
So, the space is why I've been here for years and never produced decent whitefont.
or s I'm an idiot
OK, one of your burning questions answered.
I never thought that Rowling was going to reveal that Hermoine was Harry's Sister
Well, I got the book though not the way I had originally planned. Turned out that even though the schedule at the con said they would be selling the book at midnight, what they meant was they would pre-sell the book from 5-8, then hand the books out at midnight. I got to the con at 10:30 Fri. night, and did not know that this was the plan until i went up at midnight to buy the book and found the rest of the folks there all had receipts...
I ended up buying the book this afternoon and read it while G drove us home. I was completely unspoiled for the book and yet not surprised by
Dumbledore's death
And yet...I was kinda underwhelmed by the whole thing.
Me too, Sheryl.
It felt like a lot of not much, compiled with too much annoying teenaged hormonal angst until about the last 100 pages.
Then again, I pretty much forgot everything that happened in the last book, so spent a good chunk of it being frustrated at myself for not having skimmed OotP again.
And also? Read so fast and semi-frustrated that I completely spaced the thought that Snape had to kill Dumbledore to protect Draco from doing it, and that Dumbledore had asked him to as well. Plus, agree that ol' Dumble was probably already good as dead from the poison.
I read this one WAY too fast, and definitely need to reread. I should probably reread OotPP too, because I'm guessing this one would have been better if I'd actually remembered anything from book 5. (I still don't remember being introduced to Tonks.)
My copy of HBP is still in transit, but Jessica, IIRC, Tonks was one of the wizards assigned to keep an eye on Harry early in OotP. Shapeshifter specialty with very colorful hair (as in, colors not found in nature).
I remember her as young, with a vaguely sort-of punkish vibe.
Okay, ya'll loved what I loved. And I'm totally with you on thinking that
Snape killed Dumbledore with D's knowledge (foreknowledge) and approval. So beautiful and tragic.
Also with the
Snape and Lily. And Tonks and Lupin are so perfect.
(I still don't remember being introduced to Tonks.)
Me neither. I kept thinking, "WHO IS THIS?"
