We're Literary 2: To Read Makes Our Speaking English Good

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I'm fine with this policy. I may or may not get a copy of HBP in the next month, but I'm not terribly concerned about getting spoiled for it if I don't read it by late August.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

I am now very, very tempted to start spreading false HP6 spoilers across the 'net.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

The policy works for me.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

This is cool. They're working 24/7 to get out the Braille HP6 edition - [link] . The "spoilers" at the end of the article are just current rumors.

move out and draw fire

Spoiler policy's good for me, although since my copy will hit the APO system on the 16th, and get to me maybe never, I'm probably just going to not read this thread once the post numbers start spiking. Because I compulsively highlight whitefont, whether I want to or not.

brillig

I'm counting on the whitefont, because I'd just read it in a huge gulp anyway. This thread will be the Cliff Notes edition.

"You see? THAT's what they want. Love, and a bit with a dog."

I just bought 'The Time Traveler's Wife' for vacation reading until I can get my hands on a copy of Harry Potter. I asked Borders Dude what he thought my chances were of getting a copy in Italy on Saturday. While he didn't know, he seemed to be entertained by the question. Or maybe my desperation.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Enjoy it, Lilty. It's lovely and amazing.

"You see? THAT's what they want. Love, and a bit with a dog."

I was wandering trying to think of what to buy, and then I remembered the Buffista recs, so I went to look at it and thought it looked badass. I think I'll start it tonight. I do better with vacation books if I've started before I left so I'm already into them.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

There's an excellent guide to "What to Watch Out For While Reading the New Harry Potter Book" here (Part 1 and Part 2). The writer takes the first five books and breaks them down into the common event points that take place in the structure of each book (Introduction, The Dursley Episode, And We're Off, etc.) for a hint as what to look for when trying to figure out where JKR is taking the storyline.

It had never really occurred to me how much she follows a set structure in each book and how she inserts important clues throughout the book at key points. I usually just read it as is, and don't bother dissecting the book, but I'm going to see if I can predict her this time!
