Inara: So. Would you like to lecture me on the wickedness of my ways? Book: I brought you some supper, but if you'd prefer a lecture, I've a few very catchy ones prepped. Sin and hellfire... one has lepers.

We're Literary 2: To Read Makes Our Speaking English Good

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I started with Nine Princes In Amber and that hooked me pretty hard.

The status is NOT quo.

I just want you all to know that innocently following that link to the Magic Fart yesterday has caused amazon.com to think I would really, really enjoy Piers Anthony's Pornocopia.

Thanks a lot.

I can't even.

It was Nine Princes with me and that led me to, well, everything I could get my hands on, you know the drill. I really enjoy Roadmarks too.

I picked that up last year, but haven't gotten around to it. Not sure what to do with my individual copies. I never did get through the second chronicles.

It had diminishing returns for me. I did like the second and third books, but after that my interest trailed into indifference.

Still, Lord of Light rocks. Also, "Rose for Ecclesiastes."

In the last book of the Second Chronicles of Amber, I got the impression that Zelazny suspected he had a rather permanent deadline coming up. A few things get tied up a little too quickly, but I'm just glad he had a chance to finish it.

My favorite Zelazny of all time, though, is "A Night in the Lonesome October." My gosh.

I tend to go backwards instead and try to hunt down older and older editions. I have a first edition Guns of Avalon, but never could afford a Nine Princes. My favourite is probably the Easton Press copy of This Immortal that I grabbed a bunch of years ago. Pretty book.

Here's a pic: (scroll down) [link]

I have a couple of things that Roger signed for me at a con about 10 years before he died. I wish I had more. Not for collectibility, well sort of, but they'll form part of my estate.

I thought A Night in the Lonesome October was a lot of fun, Connie. Pretty late in his career but he still had power then. 24 Views of Mount Fuji by Hokusai is one of my favourite pieces that he wrote later on (1985).

One other writer was just breaking into the field at that time and went up against Zelazny for a number of the awards above. Who was that writer and what awards did he win? The answer of course, will be next time.

Samuel Delaney, of course. They were the Twin Hot Young Science Fiction Studs of the Mid Sixties.
