Spike: Heard what happened up top, offing your dad and all. Don't know if you know this, but, uh…I killed my mum. Actually, I'd already killed her, and then she tried to shag me, so I had to-- Wesley: Thank you. I'm…very comforted.

We're Literary 2: To Read Makes Our Speaking English Good

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Always Anti-fascist!

  • Thank* you...months of my life that I'm gonna be begging for as I lie dying...well, never mind. I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid, at least.I'm through trying to Impress with my reading matter, though.

Meanwhile, back at the Hall of Justice...

It's been awhile since the last post so I thought I'd re-break the ice by mentioning that Sophie Kinsella's newest book in the Shopaholic series, Shopaholic and Sister is out. And I didn't even know it was coming out! Stopped by the bookstore today and there it was... woo hoo! Finally something to spend that birthday gift certificate on.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

I just read Confessions and Manhattan. What did you think of them?

brillig

I flipped through that Shopaholic book and felt like I was reading an "I Love Lucy" episode. I hate "I Love Lucy." The infantalized woman who insists on lying to everyone so she doesn't get yelled at for doing dumb things. "Oh, I can't confess that all my credit cards are maxed out and I agreed to have Hubby do something without asking him first."

I lack the chicklit gene. And compulsive shopping sounds as boring as Dan Quayle.

I enjoyed them Aimee. Have you read Ties the Knot?

Personally I relate to the character in her overspending ways (though I'm not nearly as bad)...

Are they fluff? Absolutely.

But sometimes that's nice...

plus I like the ways that Becky gets out of her scrapes.

She's like Bridget Jones, except obsessed with money instead of weight...

What about you?

I've "knot" yet.

t slaps knee and guffaws mightily

I loved the first one but Manhattan irritated me until she finally got a clue. I overspend as well. I am lucky in that I only have one $400 credit card. I have been finding that I am enjoying British novels more and more than their American counterparts. Jane Green is a new favorite.

Uncertainty could be our guiding light.

I enjoyed the Shopaholic books despite the fact that I almost always wanted to slap Becky. Hard.

I did, however, enjoy Kinsella's Can You Keep a Secret, without the urge for slapping.

Up with the sun

I'm with Alicia on the shopaholic books, though I couldn't read Ties the Knot because the plot description on the back sounded entirely too painful to read. Can you Keep a Secret is still quite fluffy, but all-around better.

Yeah... I get the urge to slap her too... that's the only part of the books that I'm not that keen on... BTW I finished & Sister today... it was cute, as expected
