Yep, we listened to the radio interview with this standup, and she was just in shock. They ushered her out of the building and Corporate HQ sent her a frigid little note saying she wasn't welcome, because she had been disrespectful of Bush.
Boy, they'd love me. Disrespectful? Of El Commandante Fuckwit? Naaaah.
Goddamnit! Borders is the only big bookstore near me, and now I have to boycott it.

That's so weird. I thought Borders was based in Ann Arbor, and we're a pretty liberal town, I believe.
Polter, one of these days, remind me to tell you the story of why Ann Arbor was simultaneously the site of the Worst Vacation and Worst Date Evah for me. It will make you laugh.
Not here though. Wrong thread.
Kristin, no boycott needed - the local stores tend to be right along the lines of their individual managers. I did my first read at the Sunnyvale Borders, with Tad Williams - Dave, who runs it, used to run a sensational scifi/fantasy indie bookstore.
But this particular incident got a lot of press, and Borders officially "no comment"-ed about it.
PHEW.
Thanks Deb. Still, what an irritating thing.
This is sort of on topic, yes? Bookstores? Reading at same?
You know one humongous difference between indies and chains? When it comes to doing events, I mean?
PA systems. Seriously. When you read at an indie, no matter how big the store is, they turn off the PA. Borders, B&N? Nope. You'll be right in the middle of a tense passage and, without fail, crackle zrbbpt Bill couldja pick up line seven, Bill line seven crackle.
You learn to time your reading around the PA.

might be based in Ann Arbor, but it's run by people from DC hangs head in shame.
Hey, folks -- total change of topic. Anybody here ever read
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie?
I just finished it yesterday and would like to talk it over a bit. Because I think I got the point, or sort of, but it's all wrapped up in how the movie, which I've seen several times, is completely different from the book.
I think Betsy read McKinley's
Sunshine
and wasn't thrilled with it.
