Sheppard was actually an accomplished pilot and Air Force officer before being offered the Atantis gig. He was also hand-picked by Gen. O'Neill.
Boxed Set, Vol. 1: Smallville, Due South, Farscape
A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much anything else that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Still looking for a MPG or AVI of last Friday's Atlantis t big pleading eyes
He was also hand-picked by Gen. O'Neill.
Really? As I recall, he sat in that chair and lit it up, thus making Weir really really want him. (And I'd give you the file of last week's if I had it, I swear... I've got it on the TiVo if you want a tape.)
I wouldn't cry if Enterprise did get re-upped, especially with the current creative team. However, the horse is looking awfully dead at this point, and reality is reality.
Theo, I have an avi file of the ep at home. "Before I Sleep", right? Is your profile addy good for YouSendIt? If so, I'll send it to you when I get home.
Oooh Vonnie! That would be super-fantastic! Yes, profile address is good for that! t does a little dance
Vonnie beat me to it. I wasn't sure whether I still had it, but I do.
Also, Boxed Set ate my happy b-day post to Katie this morning. Apparenly it didn't like me copycatting Anne. Well, got it in lj, anyway.
Beverly, I think my pre-existing love of SG-1 helped me like Atlantis. Though I think only one thing has ever actually made me squee with delight, and that was a sign rather than a character. And I have love for won't shut-up guy. Well, Sheppard, too (dark-haired annoying one, to you). Anyway, though, I did find the post hiatus eps more engaging on the whole, so... there may be hope. And yay for your SG-1 viewing. The love'll creep up on you, I'm sure of it.
The thing is, I was attracted and intrigued by the Sheppard actor in the about the series thing SciFi did. It's the character that makes me want to slap him. So far, at least. Of course O'Neill did that too in SG1, till I got past it. Smug and sarcastic doesn't really work for me unless I like something else about you first.
What do you love about Rodney. Redeem him for me, so I can watch until I like.

Not possible, although that may be just me.

I'm amazed that they've managed to collect $32K. I may have to go attempt to save a show.
Ah, well, see, Rodney started off on SG-1... er, as jerk, I admit, but he was funny and weirdly obsessive, and he had a crush on Sam, which she found repugnant, as you might imagine. Umm. Why do I like Rodney? Why do I like Rodney? Well, the interplay between him and just about everyone makes me laugh. And the combination of smart, tactless, insecure, often right, not that brave, but reluctantly heroic when pressed works for me. I think he's just got a vibe that I enjoy, which I get does not work for everyone. In fact, I remember my early posts about Atlantis always having the caveat, "...but I'm worried his schtick will get old for me." But, you know, it just hasn't yet. So, there you have it. (But, I mean, the guy is a pain in the ass. I wouldn't argue otherwise. I just find him to be an entertaining pain in the ass.)
OK, I just thought of one scene early on that endeared Rodney and Sheppard to me. Have you seen the ep where Rodney gets the Ancient device stuck to him? There's an adorable scene in it when he and Sheppard have just discovered the wonders of the device, and Weir sort of boggles at how they decided to test it... and they're like two kids with the coolest new toy ever.
Also? I adore the Czech doctor. They're a hoot together, too.
And, I completely agree that sometimes Sheppard is smug. It bugged me a bit at first, but I think he's won me over with endearing more often than not, so I ignore.
