Oh, god, had SG1 been in control of the ship, there'd have been no episode. That was the resounding feeling I had as they lost control.
It's more than that, it's that most of the customs and culture are very, very much particular to the contemporary US, or the mythology of it. Being ladylike is indicated by high-heeled shoes, conservative suits with skirts, and pearl earrings. Women wear black and Jackie-o half-veils to funerals. Military funerals involve folding the flag over the dead person's coffin. Prisoners wear orange track suits.
I've tried to give up on tracking this, because the culture is never going to be sufficiently alien for me, and either I give up on the show or I accept this as one of its characteristics and move on.

But...it's the same treatment we have. I'm ok with not a cure, but that it's obviously what we have, just with different words, irks me.
But what else would they have, if they haven't cured it yet? Cancer is what it is, you know?
You know, I'd much rather the at the BSG people wear stuff and work with stuff that is very analougous to what we wear now, rather than have them were freaky jumpsuit things as in Star Trek.
I enjoyed SG1 -- it's fun to see Claudia Black and I, admittedly, don't take SG1 at all seriously.

They have actual avatars of celestial bodies in Andromeda. (Seriously, if Trance can be a sun, I don't see how the genetic copy of Drago whatisface being the the son of Tyr is that much of a stretch.)

Yes, Trance is a sun, she is in love with the moon - but they can never be together because that would put their planetary system all out of wack.
Also, Dylan Hunt is not only a "paradigm" -- i.e., some sort of being with a genetic predilection for time-traveling, he is also some sort of chosen protector of the avatar of the sun, i.e., Trance.

This was one of the most ill advised future fashion choices, right up there with the velour outfits of Original Gen Trek, or the endless turtlenecks worn by everyone in the future in all the others '60's TV shows and movies.
I liked the velour Original Trek outfits. When I'm a god in the far future, you'll know it by virtue of the fashion trends returning to futuristic 60s styles.
The photo above clears up the mystery of why I've never found Richard Dean Anderson attractive despite everyone else talking him up: in that photo he looks just like my cousin Jamie did about 20 years ago.
