"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I think I have the opposite take of other viewers regarding the younger ladies - I thought the Boomer actress came off as very real, but was unimpressed by Starbuck's posturing. She struck me as one of those faux-tough jingoistic Barbies from Starship Troopers transplanted amongst all the good actors.

Mary McDonnell, of course, rocks the starship.

Thrive to spite them

Mary McDonnell's voice bugs me and so I'm always trying to work around that when I see her, I want to like her characters but I also want them to shut up. Hopefully I can work around that with BG.

I'm with you on Starbuck, Matt. Well, and Mary McD.

Heh, that's funny, askye, because one of the things that bugs me about Starbuck is her voice.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

My understanding is that Starbuck is essentially the same character as her male counterpart in the original series, a cocky and brassy star-pilot with major problems with authority. I liked that they didn't soften her up just because the character is now a female, and thought she was effective in her quieter scenes.

You know who the blond Cylon reminds me of? Mystique from The X-Men.

Well, I think portrayals in general are more... gritty? on the current show. So, yeah, same character, but portrayed more harshly. The arrogant, brash young rebel, if done well, I'm all behind, male or female. I think it's a hard thing to pull off well, though. If it's too over the top, if they're forcing it, it bugs me. Still, I don't hate her Starbuck. I just don't love her. Might be I'm not supposed to.

ETA: So, in retrospect, I guess I wouldn't characterize my issues quite as strongly as Matt did. Heh.

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

It occurs to me that Number Six would be the Most Popular Character Ever if only she were male. I mean, come on! Blonde, amoral, sexy, occasional flickers of potential humanity--fandom would be all over her.

Gaius, while he has the amorality working for him, is probably not deadly enough to make that particular paradigm work for him. Oh well.

(I still haven't watched the new episodes--I wanted to rewatch the mini first--but oh, as you've all said, I'd forgotten how much I loved Roslin. Also now I really want to put Adama and Jack O'Neill in a room together. I'm not entirely sure they'd both come out of the room alive, but still.)

Ahem.

With the power of you mad writing skilz, you could do that. Just sayin'.

No no, I want someone else to write it. Crossovers aren't my thing.

Heh. Well, it was worth a shot.

Ha! My money is on Jack, 'cause Jack would probably annoy Adama into apoplexy before Adama could get a chance to throttle him to death.

Was BSG out at the time of multiverse challenge? I wonder if anyone crossed it with SG, FS or Trek shows.
