BTW, I got an email the other day from Tivo with a sale offer - $199 (after a rebate) for a 40 hour and some amount for an 80 hour that I can't remember. If I had two hundred freaking dollars right now, I'd be all over it. What I can afford to do, however, is forward the email with the offer to anyone who might be considering.
[My tragic Tivo story: At one point a few years ago, I had a few hundred bucks that I could spare. I ordered a Tivo from J&R, which had the best price. It arrived, and what followed was a month of bliss. Then it died. By the time I got it back to them, they had discontinued the model I had, and the only ones left cost more money. I could no longer spare any money, and had to take a refund. I have been sadly Tivoless ever since. And I've never gotten over it. When I finally get a real job again, it's the first thing on my list. I'll buy a new Tivo before I buy new furniture. Seriously.]
but has it told you if you're gay or not?
Probably, since I watch QEFTSG.
But I turned off the Suggestions feature anyway.

The suggestions, or the automatic recording thereof? Does it default to on? I don't remember ever turning mine off, or having it on.
I think it defaults to on.
Every once in a while I check out the list just to see what it thinks I shoudl be watching.
The top half of my list is things I do like, just don't want to watch. Or have watched. Like Buffy on FX -- good call, guys. I wish I could make those go away without lying about my ratings.
I haven't gotten used to using Zap2it's tv schedule to try and find out when things are on.
They've changed it, you can't search shows as readily, so Zap2it now blows only second to TVGuide's guide.
OTOH, the Yahoo TV grid has become my new pal.

They tell us that,
TiVo's bright,
No VCR
Can do it right
It's not VTR, it's a TiVo.
Our TiVo is named April, though, oddly not after Warren's April.
I hear you, ita. But I find it nice to have a couple things in reserve in case there's nothing on and I want tv (and don't want to mess with and have to choose from DVDs)
When I finally get a real job again, it's the first thing on my list. I'll buy a new Tivo before I buy new furniture. Seriously.
This sounds like a perfectly reasonable set of priorities to me.
I've left Suggestions on -- at least on the one TiVo with extra space. Occasionally it has spit out stuff that I've really enjoyed, for instance I picked up
Stargate
because it kept stubbornly recording it every weekend. The TiVo runs 24/7 anyway, so it might as well be useful. :-)
