Boxed Set, Vol. 1: Smallville, Due South, Farscape
A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much anything else that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
So earnest and dorky! Poor guy.
It cracks me up that everytime we start talking about the character, it invariably ends up with "Poor Martouf!". Sad-sack, pine-y Martouf with his goofy smile and wooden-pole demeanor. Poor guy. (See?)
Yeah, but he's got a great smile.

Sigh. I miss him. Interestingly, well, to me ... on the commentary for Summit and the Part II of it (can't remember name), they were discussing the fact that they had tried to bring back JR Bourne, but he was unavailable. So, that's how they ended up with Lantash in ... the kid, whatshismane. They were actually gonna not kill Martouf (uh, again), but then when they had to change the story because of the actor's unavailability, they ended up killing Lantash. Bummer. They were going to use the old "no one ever really has to die permanently in SF, and, damn, that's a mighty resilient symbiote thing" as an excuse to bring back Martouf, but, alas ...
Huh. Interesting--I wonder how they would have pulled it off? After all, the guy was zatted twice, and Sam did the whole dramatic pietà posture at the end of Divide and Conquer. It never occurred to me that he might have lived, so bringing him back in S5 would have been a big retcon.
I liked the kid in Last Stand. Too bad he had to bite the dust. I also liked Lt. Haley a lot--I wish they'd bring her back.
Last Stand makes me sniffly.

Seriously, there is no one else who could've delivered that "well, I'm sure they wouldn't have, you know, dropped a bomb on us without good reason. Oh well, let's get ready to die!" line from The Devil You Know without making me want to smack them. But Martouf says it, and I'm all "aww! You're such a dork. Guys, make sure Marty doesn't trip over something or get lost on the way out, okay?"
I wonder how they would have pulled it off?
They pretty much admitted, "Yeah, it wouldn't have made actual sense exactly, but we wanted him back, and we think the fans did, too, so WTF?" Which, for me, would have been so true ... Stargate is definitely one of those shows about which I'm happy to say continuity be damned if it gets me, say, more Martouf time. It's like fandom without me having to get obsessive about detail and, you know, actual sense-making (even within the context of the show). Kind of why I love it. So fluffy and yummy and non-stress inducing.
ETA: Which is not to say that I don't appreciate continuity when they get it right. I surely do. I'm just saying ... Martouf. And, "fluffy and yummy," are compliments. I am in no way dissing it. I love it, and pet it, and call it George. Really.
Could Tanith come back too?
