It's absolutely not art.
It's hard, I guess, when you get into a show that's complex, and you see it redefining its field, and hitting exquisite notes, to make peace with other shows.
There are tons of not good shows out there. But Stargate, for me, doesn't even fall
near
guilty pleasure territory. It's solid. Which is cool. Would I rather watch ANY given 22 episodes of Stargate than the final season of Farscape? Absolutely. But if I could only have watched either Stargate or Farscape, it'd be Farscape.
I dunno. I'm trying to find a way to not make it sound like Mickey D's or failed filet mignon. I don't think I'm succeeding.

Heh. A good hamburger, maybe?
A good hamburger, maybe?
With bacon?
I can work with that.
Maybe some seasoned fries, and lemonade.
Ew. No bacon, and no funny spices on the fries. But I'm with you on the lemonade.
You can have bacon, of course, she said generously.
Can I have your bacon, Katie M? And I'll have a lemonade, thanks.
I don't think Stargate redefines the genre or anything, but I love it just the same. And I do think it brings up interesting issues, even if it can't address them head-on all the time.
You can have my bacon, absolutely. Also my pickle, if you want it.
THERE WILL BE NO PICKLES.
Codename: Eternity is a pickle show.
No pickles? Hamburger, fries, lemonade, and no pickles? What kind of sick freak are you?
There are pickles. The issue of the Jaffa is the pickle of Stargate. It's off to the side -- necessary, but separate and complete in its own right.
Plus, you can always give it to me. I'm losing control of the metaphor.
Mmmm, pickles, there must be pickles. . .
2) The running gag that we developed about how everyone should be set on fire or else made over as Robocop.
I think most of them had the first option covered.
Really, the creators needed some guidance from Alec Mapa or Dwight Ewell about how to make flamboyant over-the-top characters that aren't offensive or overly stereotypical.
