with a gleam in my eye, and an almost airtight alibi

Yeah, Sophia -- I saw that too. Verizon subscribers can get "news alerts" about the show's action sent to their phones. Weird ad.

"It's alien fruit! It can't look like apples!"

"And yet all the aliens speak English."

My favorite bit from that episode is where Warren (that was his name, right? Warren?) got very insistant that matter could only be sent one way through the wormhole, and that send matter both ways defied the laws of physics.

What does the producer shoot back at him? Not "Dude, it's just a TV show," or anything like that...

"Who here has won a Cable Ace award?"

Perfect producer comeback.

In sort of the same vein... I was just watching the Simpsons episode where Grandpa blows out both his kidneys and has to get a replacement one from Homer. The bit at the beginning, where the family is in Bloodbath Gultch, and the tour guide points out the planks for the sidewalk where "real bandits may have once walked," and everybody takes pictures of the sidewalk...?

Yeah, that bit is a lot funnier after you've lived off of Hollywood boulevard for a while and watched people take pictures of your sidewalk every day for the last two years.

All is well that ends in pizza.

After the Cable Ace award Marty says something about "Big deal, just because his show went 100 episodes!"

Wormhole Xtreme was Stargate Sg-1's 100th Episode.

I adore Wormhole X-Treme. You have to be careful with bringing the meta in a genre show - get repeatedly self-referential and I get irritated - but that episode made me laugh like a loon.

Well, they not only skewered themselves, but whole conventions of SF.

And the whole "Why don't I fall through the floor?" thing could have come from any SF episode that does "hey, we're out of phase with our reality!" Ensign Ro and Geordi come to mind.....and others.

Religion isn't the cause of wars. It's the excuse. - Christopher Brookmyre

Yeah, the out of phase thing was perfect. The expression on the writer's faces... I also love the previuos episode with the little bald guy, where he's a complete nutter, who's convinced he's an alien and people are after him...because he is an alien and people are after him. The plot twist just slays me.

Re. Kent senior's temporary superpowers : Oh. God. That could be really, really awful.

IOSN, I saw the rerun of the pilot last night-- my first viewing-- and... you know, sometimes with Buffy, you watch and episode, and want more, and think "I could go read fic... but... it'll never be quite as good"? Well, I realise that some SV fic gives me that feeling in reverse. I'll finish a fic, and think "I could go watch... but... not as good."

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I loved the use of the actual backstage lot for a location -- and the half-completed set and soundstage they used for one part is the actual one used for scenes on Gou'ald ships. I also get a feeling that everybody in the crowd scenes were either actual crew or family and friends thereof.

Thrive to spite them

I didn't watch Wormhole extreme because I was being semi productive. I'm an idiot.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

Oh, I saw part of that, and clicked past. When SF parody is good, it's really good, but when it's bad, I gouge my eyes out.

I'll finish a fic, and think "I could go watch... but... not as good."

Dude. That is how I feel about the show. Well, in the pilot there's that cool stunt with the car crash. But yeah, the show only exists so that there can be fanfic to make it more interesting.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

The first time I saw Wormhole X-Treme I hadn't watched that much Stargate. But there was enough general sci-fi skewering to make it funny. Each time I rewatch (three now), knowing more, it gets even more hilarious.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

I'll also note that the actors who played the Jack O'Neil parody and the director are Michael and Peter Deluise, Dom's sons, who were both on 21 Jump Street with Johnny Depp, thus bringing us all the way back to pirates.
