I remember that one of the go'auld (Apophis? Anubis?) did something that supercharged the SG-1 gate and made it explode in a potentially earth-destroying blast, but my impression was he'd had to pump it full of nearly its own rest mass again in energy before it reached the limit and went POW!

I sort of remember that one. They tried to launch the gate into space since they couldn't stop it from blowing. As I recall they almost failed to do it too.
eta: I think it was Apophis who did it.
I thought that was Heru'ur. Or possibly Sokar. Whoever it was who threatened the SGC unless they gave Apophis' body back?
That was Sokar, but he was just super-heating the iris. I don't think it was going to make the Stargate blow.
Not that I watch...oh, wait, I outed myself. Damn.
I love Dana. She's so cute.
The way I remember them losing the second Stargate is by ejecting it into a sun to make it blow up. That's the one that flung (flang?) their ship and Apophis's far off into a distant galaxy, and then Teal'c turned on them, and... now I can't remember how they ever got home.
I've been looking and looking for that ep. in Gateworld but can't locate it. I do remember that whoever it was, was keeping the wormhole open by transmitting a very small energy beam through, almost undetectable. The energy was supposed to eventually overcharge the naquada in the gate and make it blow up, taking Colorado with it.
(edited for spelling)
and... now I can't remember how they ever got home.
Oh, Christ, I can.
The replicators revamped the ship and made it go all fast and stuff.

No, that was the Tok'ra's Stargate. The one that Anubis was trying to blow up in the S6 season opener, Redemption, was sent through a hyperspace window with the malfunctioning fighter-bomber-hyperspace-capable-ship-thingie. And then it blew up, and we bought the extra from the Russians.
Oh, Christ, I can.
It's all coming out now...
