I was watching
Andromeda
yesterday and they used a bright-yellow sandy location which was used on
Stargate SG-1
in the episode with the blue crystal entities and Jack's wife. I assumed when I saw the
Stargate
episode that it was special effects, but I guess not. Does anyone know where/what this location is?
The worst part about this post is admitting that I watch
Andromeda.
I've been watching to catch Nick Lea's recurring role. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
The closest stab I can take at it is in or around Vancouver -- I can ask my Vancouver friends if you want more details.
IIRC, there's a yellow-sand quarry in that area, that Stargate used specifically so they could save on SFX. But I don't know the name of it or anything!
I figured it was in Vancouver considering which shows I've seen it on. Yellow-sand quarry? Just yellow-sand? I mean, where the heck does yellow-sand come from and why in the world would you mine or quarry or whatever it? It's does look cool on TV - I'll give them that.
Sulfur. (Edit: Just at a guess)
Softer than Kristen Kreuk? I didn't think that was possible.
Well, she's made out of plastic. I suppose it could be soft plastic, but...

Are you saying that instead of an actress, they cast a Real Doll prototype?
KK looks more slippery than soft, the poreless freak. Maybe her skin produces some uber-Photo-Finish as a top protective layer.
Which only reinforces the "made of silicon" theory.

From what I can determine from my web searches, sulphur is it. Apparently there are some yellow-sulphur-sand dunes around Vancouver as well. Whew-iie! I'm sure those were some happy people after filming. Sulphur, Oklahoma is near where I grew up and there is a state park there with some great swimming holes if you can deal with the smell. The name is literal.
