And almost sixty-five percent of that was actual compliment. Is that a personal best?

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

My problem is that there are so many new posters joining at once that I'm having a hard time keeping them all straight.

DX, it's surely one of the first rules of Stompiehood that "Thou shalt not slash the Newbies".

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

I have no idea if this is possible, but couldn't some code be written to scour through the current members and alert the person trying to register (registree?) that his/her chosen name is already taken.

The list would be unnecessary at that point, and new folks won't have to ask a Stompy to change anything. Granted, that wouldn't eliminate the problem with similar names, but it's one less thing to worry about. We're not really trying to change the culture; think of it as tweaking to make it better.

I feel 99% certain in saying that the system already won't let you register with an exact duplicate.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I tried "Jen" first, and I was notified that there already was one.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

I've got the other 1% covered.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

It's the near misses (honest or not), Maria, the Tim Minaers and the KristenT's that'll confuse.

wrong thread for content free banter. So, yeah I'm with Allyson's paragraph.

Let me just say that popularity with people on public transportation does not equal literary respect. --Jesse

Jess M., JessPMoon, Jesse, and JesseBelle (who I imagine must wear a pink cowboy hat).

I got listed first! I got listed first!

I freakin' LOVE DX!

We're all getting played with, babe. -Weird Barbie

I will be very grumpy if a KristenT registers. I will try to be at least as gracious as Kristen was when I showed up, though. (She was very gracious.)

Gotcha. In that case, the current method seems to be doing the job. If people are getting squicky feelings about a master member list then change is probably not a good thing.

It's not like we've come up against a significant problem yet, even with the influx of new folks.
