Damn it! You know what? I'm sick of this crap. I'm sick of being the guy who eats insects and gets the funny syphilis. As of this moment, it's over. I'm finished being everybody's butt monkey!

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

The server's cpu utilization was pegged solidly at 100% when I checked around 10:00 PM (CA time).

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

The server's cpu utilization is averaging around 50% now.

(I swear, I'm using my new powers for good.)

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yeah, definitely better now. Wonder what spiked us?

I remember things slowing down on my server when we backed up. Maybe we were backing up?

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Sunday night might be a time for backup, true.

Really freaking early on Monday morning. The perfect time for FAQ Updates. Debate them. Discuss them. Approve them or disapprove them, as you see fit.

Section: General

Q: Where did it all begin?

FIRST - The Worldcrossing link takes me to a page that gives me this message: "The item ".eeac7d1" does not exist, it may have been deleted."

SECOND - Java cat mentions here Java cat "Bureaucracy 2: Like Sartre, Only Longer" Mar 29, 2004 11:07:05 pm PST that it might be a good idea to add here that TT encouraged people to use their real names the text could be altered (her proposed change in bold) to

In the beginning there was Salon Table Talk, and the Buffistas met one another on Salon Table Talk, and it was a free Web-posting board provided by online magazine Salon, and it was good. Salon did encourage people to use their real names, and most/many people did, and also use their real names here. In August 2001 Table Talk moved from being free to being a for-pay service......

______

The next two questions on TV schedules can be combined into one.

Q: What's up with the American syndication schedule for Mutant Enemy shows these days?

A: Buffy the Vampire Slayer runs five days a week on the FX network and is in general syndication on the weekends on other channels. Buffy is currently shown three times a day on FX at both 7 AM (6 AM Central) and 8 AM (7 AM Central) and at 4 PM (3 PM Central) on FX.

Angel runs five days a week on TNT and is in general syndication on the weekends on other channels. Angel is currently shown once a day on TNT at 5 PM (4 PM Central).

For both Buffy and Angel, the weekend syndication runs at various times of the day, as determined by the individual television station.

______

The next question deals with getting ME shows on tape/DVD.

Am I too bold in suggesting that we just get rid of the bit about getting it on tape? The links we have for the Special Value Slayer Pack, The Slayer Chronicles and The Buffy and Angel Chronicles show they are all out of stock at amazon.

So it would just be a matter of adding links for the rest, deleting the first graph and changing the wording a bit.

Q: Where can I get Buffy, Angel and Firefly on DVD?

A: Americans and Canadians can purchase entire seasons of each show (well, not an entire season of Firefly...but we shouldn't get into that here...asshat network wouldn't know a decent show if it bit them on the...oh yeah! DVDs) at the links below:

Need to add links to amazon for BtVS seasons five and six. And A:tS season three. And Firefly.

The links to Blackstar and Choices Direct for non North Americans are fine. I can't access the link for downloading eps. Can someone check to make sure it is OK? Is this still a link that will be useful for people?

________

Since we are not explaining how to get videotapes I say we get rid of the Q about NTSC and PAL.

__________

Q's about JM and AD being English or not - check. All good.

_________

Then there is the question about ASH. Just a tiny change so it's past tense.

Q: Oh, no, what about Anthony Stewart Head?

A. He's English, all right. And, for that reason, was resident accent/slang coach on the Buffy set. Of course, that isn't his real accent, either.

_________

Q about ASH singing and the link to ASHsongs still OK.

_______

Scripts
The only links that are still active here are the amazon ones for the script books - which either needs to be updated to inlude all the ones that are now avail (I think there are 8 or so now and they are only on season three) or we could just a link to the first one and hope they know enough to search amazon for the rest.

All the other script links need to go.

Are there other script resources that we want to include here? The the Buffy Dialogue Database? Anything?

__________

The next question tells what the difference between shooting scripts and transcripts are. I think this should stay. Even if we can't link to a script site. I know that I didn't know this info when I first read the FAQ.

___________

The next question offers links to Buffista Links and FanFiction.net. Both work fine.

___________

And the next questions just says "add your links to our links page if you want to" and is OK as well.

_________

OK. Fun. The next question is the "How do I get people hooked on Buffy." So - do we leave it as is? Do we add Firefly and Angel?

If we do leave it as just Buffy - we still might need to change it a teeny bit. It says to get people hooked on "something recent." But there is really no recent now. FX cycles through all seven seasons in several months. If we just remove that phrase it would be:

You want a good blend of comedy and action, without a lot of backstory to confuse the new viewer. We suggest something from a later season, this way you aren't constantly saying "Oh, that's Angel, but he's got his own show," or "Oh, Cordy and Xander aren't dating any more."

Many Buffistas have had good results with Season 4's "Hush" (almost no dialogue, funny mime scenes) and "Something Blue" .....

On a personal note - I've always wondered why Buffy v. Dracula was one of the suggestions. I have had to actually convince people to keep watching Buffy after seeing that ep. But. My issue. Onward we go...

______

The question about the source for TV schedules can be deleted. We have the FX and TNT schedules right up there. The question was there mainly so people could find out if this week's ep was new or a rerun.

_______

The question about crossovers can be deleted.

cont. in next post

That brings us to Customs and Ritual Practices. (This may be a better place to add the preference for real names that Java cat mentioned instead of in the General section. Remember? It's wayyy up there at the top of the previous post. Scroll. You'll find it.) We'll get started on that once we're done with General.

_____

I'm not sure how to best direct the discussion about this. Or how to say the discussion has ended and we're moving on to the next section. I'm thinking I'll just let this sit here for a several hours and see what happens and at some point I'll ask for clarification with about what we've decided - make a final list for Jon - and move on to the next section. Sound OK?
