Buffy: A Guide, but no water or food. So it leads me to the sacred place and then a week later it leads you to my bleached bones? Giles: Buffy, really. It takes more than a week to bleach bones.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

However, I'm glad it didn't go to a vote because I don't like micromanaging the board's functions.

Neither does Elena, which is why she didn't bother.

After the initial dust-up/concensus that it was fine she went on vacation for two weeks. When she came back she posted announcements again and there was another dust-up in spite of that concensus. So she gave up.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

Beverly thanks for posting. It may not be easy for you, but I think it is good for the board.

WRT to Jesse's post. I relate to her ability to see that a slight modification on her part made the whole issue a not big deal. I honestly saw Elena's decision to move the announcements to teh QUotables thread as teh same type of thing. I was more than a little confused about why people were so bothered by the announcements in the first place.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

we'd still have a separate Due South thread. And probably still have Spoilers Lite. And all threads would talk about Batman all the time. And I'd still feel comfortable in Bitches, or still hang in the fic thread.

I'm for any and all of those. Some a little more than others.

Took a walk around the block. Have (almost) stopped shaking. Thanks for not deactivating my login. Kidding. Mostly.

I have no interest in debating the deathmatch thing, it's over and done. I just needed to say that not all of us are built for the fray. Not Fray. You know.

More coffee. Stat.

I was more than a little confused about why people were so bothered by the announcements in the first place.

I think that is a very common feeling.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Honestly, I got the impression that if it had been taken to a vote, that there was enough popular support for deathmatch notices to continue in Press.

However, I'm glad it didn't go to a vote because I don't like micromanaging the board's functions.

I agree completely, but isn't that the point of Rafmun's comments? That a few more vocal citizens overpowered a majority of others because the others were tired of the complaints? I think it depends on what you think is best for the board. If the majority should always rule, then something is wrong. If it's what the greatest number of people can live with, then it's working fine. I think the danger is that if the conflict-avoidy types keep "losing", they'll eventually leave and the board will be the poorer for it.

But I do wish the decision had felt more like a compromise and less like Elena throwing up her hands and making a change she didn't want to make.

I think Elena did what she felt pressured to do with graciousness and diplomacy. I kind of wish she had merely limited her posts to once a day, like a lot of people seemed to favor, or continued as it was. I'm glad Steph posted and Plei posted and Elena posted and Hec posted and everyone else posted because this is what fosters communication. I did not get the impression that anyone was forced to do anything. But the only person who can truly answer that is Elena.

Up with the sun

juliana, thanks for mentioning me, but as I am of the "argue about whether the sky is blue or not" persuasion I think you were thinking of someone else.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

psst, Lyra, it is not!

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

I think that before entering a debate (or hell, any conversation), all posters should consider, "Is this constructive to the conversation? Will my post encourage participation?" Cause sometimes I feel like personal insults and bullying happen instead. Also I am feeling like I need to take a break from the board and I'm a long-time participant (from TT days). It's sad-making but I want to enjoy my time on the board and right now, I'm just not.
