Willow: Something evil-crashed to earth in this. Then it broke out and slithered away to do badness. Giles: Well, in all fairness, we don't really know about the "slithered" part. Anya: No, no, I'm sure it frisked about like a fluffy lamb.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I feel it might seem very "Well, people ignored the hell out of me, and it turned out okay," when I do wonder about the extent to which the community is beholden to baby a newcomer, and how much of the responsibility comes upon the newcomer.

There have been other online communities I never fit into, others I fit into for just a while. This is definitely one that stuck. I'm not mad at any of the others ... they just weren't me. Everyone's not going to be my friend. And I'd go insane if they were. I'd also go insane if I had a gazillion online communities. It's the nature of human interaction. Not that all the pegs here are the same shape, but most of them have wriggled into a hole, whether they fit there right away or did some judicious carpentry becomes more and more irrelevant as time passes.

That having been said, I do not think that Beej was unduly piled on, and there was evidence right there in thread to show that it happens to people who aren't new. Maybe she didn't want to be in a community where anyone was treated that way. As is her right. Which makes us not the us for her.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

It just makes those times when I'm not ignored all the more special. ;)

Is it wrong that this sentence made me think of my cat?

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

that's disguised as an elderly inuit dutchwoman from Hoboken who is using Trudy, Hil, meara and SA as sockpuppets. Pay attention.

I am no sockpuppet!

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

I am no sockpuppet!

Shut yer puppethole.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

That having been said, I do not think that Beej was unduly piled on

After going back and looking (after I'd written saying otherwise) she definitely was not. I mean, like 20 posts passed before 'Suela said anything. And then another twenty before (Allyson?) and then a bunch before Deb. That's not the whole board coming down on you. And everyone made it clear that they were not irritated on behalf of anyone else.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

If I'm a sock ANYTHING it's one of those monkeys.

So I volunteered to combine DX and Dana's recent FAQ update into a One Big Update.

I'll have lots of questions and need input.

First thing:

Before I've even gotten to the FAQ - I noticed that two things need to be changed on the Site Etiquette bulletted list.

I'm just gonna list what is wrong (for public disclosure and double checking purposes, I will make one big list eventually).

Spoiler Policy - Third bullet: Delete the last sentence that applies to Spoiler Lite threads.

Bureau - Tenth bullet: Link goes to Bureau 1. Should go to Bureau 2. (The link is to ask admin. questions and 1 is closed.)

edit: x post with BBaBB

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Spoiler Policy - Third bullet: Delete the last sentence that applies to Spoiler Lite threads.

Bureau - Tenth bullet: Link goes to Bureau 1. Should go to Bureau 2. (The link is to ask admin. questions and 1 is closed.)

Done and done.
