Also, agreeing with what everyone is saying about talking-to-thin-air. I'm always worried that I've ended up on people's personal twit filters, but I get over it.

Astarte - do I go back and edit, which would make your post look incredibly strange. Or do I just say thank you for reaching into my brain and putting those thoughts into words much better than I could have.
I guess I will go with the later...THANKS!
Well, I might as well throw in my .02. I've been around a long time, since early in the TT days, I remember when we wondered if Holli was really a 45 year old man in Hoboken, NJ, because no 13 year old could be that well spoken and intelligent. Sometimes I feel superior because of that. But, still, sometimes I say things that I feel are ignored (and they are cogent and clever, dammit!), and I don't take it personally There is definite truth to the idea that we don't cut newbies much slack. The other day, a longtime, respected poster who I have met in person said something that REALLY pissed me off. Her statement could have been interpreted more than one way. However, since I know her, in the end, I decided that she was being sarcastic, and had not communicated that well. Had she been a newbie, she would have gotten an ugly smackdown from me. There are people on the board who are very much a part of the community who sometimes say things that annoy or offend me. However, they are part of the community and you take the good with the bad.
That said, you have to earn your reputation, and it is bad form to come into a new group and tell them how to do things. I gave Beej a mild tap (tempered with a smiley face) when she spouted off about something that she didn't know about, very minor but still irritating. It was my way of trying to say that she should calm down and not try to be so "helpful". I think that she really didn't get the vibe.
BTW, I think that a guacamole room might be a good idea, to give newbie examples of the stuff that will get them the smackdown. Sometimes people do things online that they would never do in person, and don't realize that we are not like other online communities.
I guess I will go with the later...THANKS!
Hee. No problemo. YOU'RE WELCOME!
