Inara: I think she looks adorable. Mal: Yeah, but I never said it.

Our wings are not tired.

So I just got back to my desk and I see over 100 messages in Bureaucracy since I left this morning. I'm so pleased to see it was all about Nilly and the mathier Natter 17. I can't wait to see her delight when she gets back.

In matters of style — and I'm sure I'm right — em dashes take a space on either side.

Not according to books I've read (and I'd cite them, but they're in boxes).

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

All the "how to format your manuscript" handouts I got at the writers' conference say no spaces.

Anyone have a Chicago handy?

The generation that could change the world is still looking for its car keys.

That's a much beta pi!

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

From the FAQ at the CMoS web site, it appears that no space is used, although it looks bad to me.

In matters of style — and I'm sure I'm right — em dashes take a space on either side.

Every single style guide I've ever used (and granted, we're looking mainly at technical pub) tells me otherwise.

Your Style Guide May Vary.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Natter 17: Welcome back, Nilly! We tried to set up a thread in honor of your favorite number as a lovely surprise for you, but then we had a punctuation war instead.

DX, thanks for the link, because

An en dash is a useful but subtle creature that is longer than a hyphen but shorter than an em dash.

Is just too cute for words.

Feh, dashes. Ellipses are much more cool . . .
