Everything looks good from here... Yes. Yes, this is a fertile land, and we will thrive. We will rule over all this land, and we will call it... 'This Land.' I think we should call it 'your grave!' Ah, curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal! Ha ha HA! Mine is an evil laugh! Now die! Oh, no, God! Oh, dear God in heaven!

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

By adding your birthday to the calendar, I think permission to post is implied, no?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I mean the permission to post in Press, not in Natter.

If there indeed is a difference between posting in the two, then I think people may feel differently about the dissemination. If there is no difference, then why post in Press?

For love or money, I'd not want my birthday up in Press. In natter, it's been there, and it's okay.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Well, a "from now on birthdays will be announced in Press and not Natter, if you don't want yours announced in Press please contact Nilly by blah de blah and have it removed from the list" should do the trick.

Which was all I was saying.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I wouldn't post my own birthday in Press (or probably anywhere, really) but I don't care where or if someone else posts it. But I'd rather see it in Beep Me than in Press. Beep Me has tended all along to be where people post not just the apocalyptic stuff, but also "here's what's been going on in my life, if you were wondering." Press is much more hard news oriented, and I'd like to keep it that way.

ita, what's the difference between having it posted in Natter and in one of these threads? I do think that if we're trying to cut down on the nuisance posts, people are more likely to miss a single Nilly post in Natter. To me, that's the biggest reason for the (suggested) change, and I don't see much of a difference either way other than that. But you obviously do.

If we do decide to change, we could post one Press notice asking folks who are uncomfortable to give Nilly a heads-up. I don't know how she maintains the list, but I'm sure it wouldn't be much trouble to keep a note of which ones need to stay in Natter. But I confess I don't see the need.

So, where is this Buffista Calendar you all speak of? I know I found it once before, but I've lost it!

It's not on the board, Rayne. Nilly keeps it in her secret lair. Just send her an email if there's anything you want to add - b-day, anniversary, etc.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

is it OK if I leave it at 25?

God, I hope so. Mine's at 20.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Sorry -- if I said Press above, I meant Beep Me.

Brenda, for me, the difference is that nothing has yet happened in my life important enough to be posted in Beep Me. My prolific nature, however, will show that I think plenty of things have happened that I just couldn't resist sharing in Natter (or Bitches, or Buffy, or whatever).

My birthday doesn't warrant announcing, though it may warrant discussion, or response to. That's why I see a difference.

But I'm also not bothered if no one notices, so it's quite clearly a personal preference thing. I don't think it's fair to assume I'm the only one that sees a difference, so I think it's fairest to give people a heads up in case they might feel shy like I do.

From a consuming point of view, I don't think they belong in Beep Me, but that merely makes it incumbent upon me to skim them. Which is no real deal. It may, at first, also increase the number of posts that need to be deleted as people forget where they are and respond in thread, but again, not a huge thing to work around.

Mostly, I just don't see the point. But as long as I'm not up there, it's not a problem.

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

Could we try setting auto-refresh to 7 minutes, perhaps? It's a minor enough change that it won't drive the Katie Ms of the world crazy (will it?)

Nope, not at all.

If y'all want the birthday announcements to change someone's going to have to tell Nilly - I don't think she reads Bureaucracy.
