Oh, you're probably all balanced out by my insane need to have it set at 75 per page
Hundred a page for me. I skip a lot.
Would it be feasible for Nilly to post birthdays in Beep Me instead of Natter?
Yes please.
A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.

I'd appreciate this too.
I have 50 messages per page, but I don't think that should be standard practice or anything.
This may be a side effect of me not caring that much about my birthday (and it's no in the calendar, for that reason), but I'd always envisioned Beep Me as being for important stuff, and not predictable stuff.

An awful lot of people don't regularly Natter, though. I'd like to see it in Beep Me or Press, or else I'd like to see a site calendar. Or hey - how about Nillytown, with an intitial announcement in Press that that's where the birthday reminders will appear?
I guess it really depends on the people whose birthday it is. My reflex is -- if you think your birthday is apocalypse-worthy, you should post it there, instead of having the default be that they all appear there.
I think it belongs even less in Nillytown, now that I think about it.
edit: I notice it's not in the slug/description, but I do remember that one of the initial Apocalypse ideas was that one only posts one's own news unless given permission -- so it should definitely be cleared with everyone before being made standard practice.
It's a minor enough change that it won't drive the Katie Ms of the world crazy (will it?) but every little thing might help.
That's really the point. Each of us can look at the board and see what we can do to help. I've turned my auto-refresh from "default" to "off." I've increased my posts per page from 30 to 40.
If we all look at what we can do, we can make a difference. Probably not enough to solve the whole problem, but at least enough that Kristen and Monique (and thanks to both of you for all you patience in all this!) can tell our hosts that we're making an effort. And maybe we can save a bell or whistle or two.
I don't really care either way about the specific birthday issue, but the more posts there are in Beep Me and Press, the less likely that everyone really will read them and see the important things.

Yeah, but people put greay going, etc. there too.
the more posts there are in Beep Me and Press, the less likely thateveryone really will read them and see the important things.
True, but if Natter becomes denser we'll get more skimmers. A calandar announcement two or three times a week wouldn't really be a huge increase.
I enjoy both the giving and receiving of birthday wishes. I would like to see them in Press.
I don't use refresh. I'm only subbed to a handful of threads during the week. I don't see a problem with the glitter wars and number slutting in quiet times. It looks to me like people are all doing what they can to help. It's all good.

I think this might be the best way to do it. Easier on Nilly, too.
I agree that birthdays aren't earthshattering (though, of course, my quarter-centennial a week from next Sunday will be). But it seems to me that the posts in Beep Me now are about one-third major news, two-thirds minor things on the level of someone going away for the weekend (and I just posted one of these). So if the function of it is supposed to be major events only, we need to clarify that.
