Because we cannot stop growth.
Nobody is saying let's stop growing. The only thing that I have been asking for the past two is to please put off talk of new threads until we figure out the technical side and get things under control. That's all.
Book ,'Our Mrs. Reynolds'
A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.

Fred, we don't traditionally look for bullshit consensuses on technical issues. For instance, the default display of posts for unregistered folk is already 20 (since yesterday), and will be for the newly registered too.
Once I've worked out the mechanics of QotD, that was going live too.
I am very willing to be draconian on code stuff.
Hooray for ita.
OK, ita.
I hadn't noticed the new default because mine is already set at 30.

I understand that. But if we're already violating our contract, and this is August, how much worse will it be in October?
I guess I don't understand how you can say "we could get thrown off by our host tomorrow" on the one hand and NOT see it as a situation requiring emergency measures. Has all of this been explained elsewhere?
Have you been following along in Board?
Have you been following along in Board?
Sorry, but no. Is there a specific post or series of posts you could point me to?
This is probably a really stupid question, but are there things we can be doing as users to decrease the load, sort of the posting board equivalent of setting the thermostat to 68 in the winter? IOW, should I set my posts per page higher, and/or wait until there's a dozen new posts in Natter or Bitches before I read instead of just one or two?
The most recent discussion of how to optimize the board starts here.
Should we just get rid of the random quote generator until bobita can code a quote of the day? I love the quotes. I could totally do without them forever and ever, in any form. It seems if we're already in violation, and we know that's a hit on the server, we ought to kill it now.
