Anya: We should drop a piano on her. It always works for that creepy cartoon rabbit when he's running from that nice man with the speech impediment. Giles: Yes, or perhaps we could paint a convincing fake tunnel on the side of a mountain.

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

I was going to ask, because I don't really go into the thread, what is the purpose of Previously?

I wasn't around for it's original incarnation, but I'd imagine it was to handle discussion of previous episodes and seasons when the main thread was taken over with current discussion.

Plus it's a place that's unAmerican friendly, and while I know they have their own thread, it's a thread that allows discussion for both unAmerican and Americans without worrying about the WF or NAFDA.

Up with the sun

Are you talking about combining all three?

Sorry -- yes, I am.

When you say "we all agree" who do you mean?

Good question.

I don't mean "we have a bullshit consensus and should therefore make these changes right away." I mean, "of the people who have been in the Bureaucracy and Lightbulbs threads today, these changes have been mentioned several times and have met no significant objection." It's just an informal list to help me (and hopefully others) keep track of what's being said.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Plus it's a place that's unAmerican friendly, and while I know they have their own thread, it's a thread that allows discussion for both unAmerican and Americans without worrying about the WF or NAFDA.

I don't think it's serving the first purpose, nor do I think it is necessary. This other, however, is relevant. I'd love to have some unAms weigh in on this.

Burrell, the way I understand it, it's a place for people who are watching the syndicated shows (possibly for the first time) to talk about them without getting spoiled for the new shows. It's also a place to have an earlier show discussion without it getting lost in the discussions of new episodes or watch'n'posts which can happen during the season.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Plus it's a place that's unAmerican friendly, and while I know they have their own thread, it's a thread that allows discussion for both unAmerican and Americans without worrying about the WF or NAFDA.

This is now true for any thread dedicated to discussing Buffy. I mean, right? Hasn't everyone now seen the whole thing? (Except Nilly, of course -- sorry about that...)

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

This is now true for any thread dedicated to discussing Buffy.

Yep. The only reason for keeping Previously open, really, is if people (either UnAms or people on tape delay) want a separate thread for AtS syndication, which begins in September.

There seems to be a tacit resistance to closing Previously.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

There seems to be a tacit resistance to closing Previously.

Because people want it for Angel reruns.

Nobody

There seems to be a tacit resistance to closing Previously.

There does. I don't object. I don't usually go in there though, and wasn't here when it was created. If there's a sub-community, I don't want to uproot them. Is there?

I wonder, was it created when FX was first airing BtVS, and people were catching up? Is there the need for it for Angel, that the Angel NAFDA thread doesn't serve.

If Previously is unlike Atlantic Canadians and unlike UnAmerican, and is just a catch-all, could we, would we want to do without it?

I ask this all within the context of the community's aversion to thread proliferation. I understand and agree with the people who are anti-proliferation in theory, but I have a harder time accepting the No New Thread requests on an individual basis, when every time we move to clean up the thread list, this inertia settles over us.

I don't think we should change things for no reason, or just because we can. But, when a community that met because of a TV show, has lost that TV show, and there are folks who want to add a general TV thread, in part, to gage where our new interests will lie, but anti-proliferation is brought up as a reason against doing so, yet nobody is willing to close redundant threads, I think I need to take up drinking in a more serious way.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

I wonder, was it created when FX was first airing BtVS, and people were catching up? Is there the need for it for Angel, that the Angel NAFDA thread doesn't serve.

Yup, that's exactly what it was created for, and come the fall, the exact same situation will exist for Angel.
