A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.

You know what? You can't spell the word "popcorn" without "porn".

Or "modigy", apparently. But that's a whole 'nother thread.
Burrell makes a good point about general discussion threads:
I find the conversation that takes place in them disjointed, undeveloped, and basically kinda boring. I no longer bother with Literary, I never really started with Music, and I rarely try to keep up with Movies. I find there is little to no payoff for reading them. This is not the fault of those who post in the threads. It is the nature of the general discussion format. It just doesn't go very far.
The Buffistas grew out of an obsessive focus on just one show. That's where the community came from. People say that the
Smallville
and
Stargate
discussions have their own communities now. I don't see Movies and Natter building communities. They live off the community we already have. We might never share a universal, all-consuming obsession like Bureaucr Buffy again, but if we nurture new obsessions, they can regenerate us.
This is making me think I should have voted for the Minearverse thread, and maybe should not vote for the general TV thread. The Minearverse will help us keep Allyson, the way Fic attracts the Lizard, because they're obsessed. The TV thread won't help retain or attract anybody.
I've pulled a list from the main page of our active threads, so we know for sure what our options are when we discuss consolidation. These are in order of most recent use; "Previously" and everything after it is under at least two closed threads.

I've tried to group the threads. If I missed something, give a shout. It was unintentional, not a nefarious plot to eliminate a thread.
Up for discussion (not proposing, not yet, just trying to focus the conversation) - which threads need to be eliminated, repurposed and/or combined.
I'm thinking (not proposing) that we eliminate Buffy Spoilers Lite, combine BtVS, Angel, and Firefly Quotables, into a Quotable ME thread, and repurpose Previously to a previously on BtVS and Angel thread, and once the thread runs its course, change the name of Buffy/Angel Spoilers into just Angel Spoilers.

Are there any other overlaps, threads that can be combined, or threads that seemed needed when we opened them, but are more or less unused?
What are we going to do about Firefly? ("Nothing," is an acceptable answer; I'm just brainstorming.)
We have - is it 13? - episodes. We have 3 threads devoted to those 13? episodes. There's a split now, because the UK has seen episodes than NAFDA folks have not seen.
Are there Buffistas still very into Firefly who haven't/won't downloaded/been-gifted-with those UK-only-aired episodes?
If so, do the above-mentioned Buffistas want protection from spoilage on those UK-only-aired episodes?
If so, do the spoilage-protection-needing NAFDA Fireflyistas still need/want a separate thread dedicated to Firefly?
Once the UK has seen all the NAFDA episodes (even though NAFDA won't see all the UK episodes) is there still a need for a spoilers thread? I mean, there are no spoilers. Instead, would it make more sense to make the current Firefly Spoilers thread, the Firefly Full Monty thread, and keep the NAFDA Firefly thread as a haven for NAFDA-types who don't want to be spoiled?

Yes.

Yes, as raised earlier when discussion of those eps was placed in the spoiler thread. I'd assume that hasn't significantly shifted.

What's the advantage to that?
Speaking just for myself, I wouldn't mind having LotR folded into Movies.
BuffistaCorp can, IMO, be closed and archived. (CafePress-related discussion has happened more in the F2F thread than anywhere else lately.)
Well, why do we have a spoilers thread, for a show with no new episodes? It just seems silly. Why not have a thread that discusses all the episodes, and call it that - rather than call it spoilers (of which there are none), and keep the NAFDA thread safe for NAFDA.
I thought part of the reason the Brits to spoilers was to protect them from discussion of the episodes aired in North America, but not yet in the UK.

I may be being selfish here, but no -- I thought it was all about those like me, who are hanging on for the DVDs.
I don't see the point of renaming threads if there still are going to be the same number of threads. They are spoilers, by NAFDA rules, so why not call the thread that? Just like Atlantic Canadians was about early shows.
