If Zoe was four years old she'd have earned herself a time out in the corner so that they other kids can enjoy the party.

I honestly don't understand why she's being accorded more respect than that. Nothing in her behaviour or her attitude warrants it.

She's just going on a kamikaze run. She's probably read the discussion, feels cornered and is going out in a blaze of bratty defiance.
