If Darla pops up warning us not to spill the blood of virgin webspace to ensure the birth of Tim's thread, I am going to be seriously freaked.
Oh. I probably should have mentioned that in Press or Beep Me, huh?
So we're going to call the Tim thread, "Connor, the Whiny Bastard with Joey Lawrence Hair?"
Didn't Joey Lawrence have way cleaner better hair?
I think Joey Lawrences hair was more era appropriae when he was wearing it.
Now I am counting shit-loads of votes.
Back to somewhat old news because I only get on here once a day, but I'm disappointed we've decided to only send a strongly worded letter with no threat behind to HostRocket. If I had money, I'd be bankrolling the legal maneuvers, no matter how much empty gestures or lack of restitution we'd get. Because they are empty gestures that HR would have to counter and they would see that there are people who are willing to let fly a few arrows, no matter if they don't reach the target. And it would all be on record, too, that they'd been taken to court for their business practices. The whole idea gives me great, giddy spasms of violent joy.
And I'm the one with the rep for forgiveness and second chances. But it's been decided. I just wanted to go on record in the "The line in the sand is way, way far back there, but the dear gods help you if you step over it" camp.
Forgiveness? Second chances? For HostRocket?
I'm going to look funny at anyone who even suggests it.
However, I see no ROI on anything other than gently discouraging prospective customers that cross our path, and registering our disdain with BBB.
I can't see how anything else would even make them itch.
Maybe in addition to sending a letter to the BBB, we also send a copy to the NY State Attorney General. He's been fairly active in going after internet consumer ripoffs.
Thing is, who is going to take the time to go through court stuff? Who is going to physically sit in a court room on our behalf? Anyone?
It's not worth it. We got fucked, and it blows. We're okay, now. We have a reliable host who truly is available, and is someone we actually know and trust.
DX, I think the same letter can be sent to both, and even sent to HostRocket, cc'd.
That way, if any other brave soul comes along and decided to take that step, we've left a papertrail. If Farscape and the other community that got fucked would like to send identical letters, that'd be supercool.
It falls into two emails, three stamps, three sheets of paper, and three envelopes, along with the time to pull up the addresses and write the letter and two emails.
I can handle that, it's pretty simple, but my question is: Who signs the letter on behalf of Buffistas.org, and what is the return address of Buffistas.org?
Because they are empty gestures that HR would have to counter
Well, the point behind the idea of "empty gestures" is that Hostrocket
doesn't
have to counter anything.
We don't have a claim that will, on its merits, trouble them terribly.
They know damn well that 1. jurisdiction's a problem and 2. courts wouldn't understand a fucking thing we were saying.
DX, I think the same letter can be sent to both, and even sent to HostRocket, cc'd.
Yup, I agree. We should probably also append copies of ita's correspondence with HR to indicate that they were not, in fact, paying any attention to what she was saying. As to who signs, I suppose any one of us could. Jesse and ita actually had their names on the account, I think, which might carry more weight.
I never really thought about it before, but on all of our charity donations, I've always signed,
Allyson (last name, here)
Buffistas.org
My first sentence is always,
"Please accept this donation of (money amount) from Buffistas.org in honor of (Tim, Joss, whomever)."
This money was raised by fans of "blank" to celebrate (birth of baby, the works of), and we are pleased to be able to support (charity name).
Thank you for your (description of charity's work). "
It just occurred to me that there's been a few occassions when I've spoken for ya all.
Yeah, even though ita was the one dealing with them, I was the one paying them. So maybe both of us?
