Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Will you all bake me cookies and bring them to the asylum? And maybe some taco bell for dessert?

I'm fairly sure I owe you a batch of cookies just on principle.

Nobody

I think new threads go up for a vote because we have limited bandwidth and that means not all proposed threads could ever be instituted. I may want a thread called "Please Search the Net for Photos of Guys I Think Are Cute and Post Them Here For Me." but that would be of interest to, well, me, and use a lot of community resources. Charity or the F2F don't use up server space--we can have unlimited supplies of them as long as peoples' pocketbooks and goodwill hold out.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

What, you don't want our own version of Drool Streaks?

t coming in carefully, 'cause it looks like things have settled somewhat

I think the issue is that we don't like upsetting people and no matter what we do, one or two people who are not the troll are really, really upset. I don't like upsetting Trudy and connie, I don't like upsetting Kat and Allyson (for example, over the troll issue) Problem is, whatever we do is going to upset someone, so it becomes harder and harder to make the desicions-- either way someone is upset.

In any kind of decision where emotions are involved, someone will be upset. Sad, but true. Despite what we're taught in self esteem classes, not everyone is the winner, someone's viewpoint is going to lose.

Primarily, though, I'm bringing this up because this is the third time I've found myself being held up as a figurehead of whatever side I'm on, and it's both highly disconcerting and delightful. I mean, I consider myself apathetic in the extreme, anti-social, and essentially curmudgeonly. In addition to the lovely company I'm paired with--Hi, Trudy!--I feel I should be practicing the words to "Le Marseilles (sp)" and chanting "Equalite, Liberte, Fraternite!" and all that. No guillotines, I promise.

No insights into processes or resolutions of difficult matters. Just a bit of "Gosh!" at the situation itself and where I find myself therein.

So, Allyson, will they accept chocolate chip cookies where you'll be? And where do you stand on the transcendently important question of "Nuts or No Nuts"? I'm in the Anti-Nut Camp, myself. To the barricades.

No other candidate is asking the hard questions, like "Did geophysicists assassinate Jim Henson?" or "Why is there hydrogen in America's water supply?" --defective yeti

I think new threads go up for a vote because we have limited bandwidth and that means not all proposed threads could ever be instituted.

There was a guy named Z Man in Worst Possible Thread Names on Table Talk who showed how this could get out of hand:

Up with the sun

TT also used to have real threads called things like, "I'm bored, is anyone here?" and about 16 variations on "The Insomniac Thread." So I can kind of see the value of using community consensus to decide when a thread starts, especially when our bandwidth is limited.

By board, I mean straight up Buffistas.org. I'd always seen who posts here, and how, and which threads exist for posting in, yadda, yadda to be in the voting purview.

T-shirts, face to faces, charitable donations ... those don't actually involve right *here*. Not about this code, these threads ... does that make sense?

This would be how I would divide it, too. Also, didn't the F2F people have a vote (or possibly several votes) to set the date and place?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Also, didn't the F2F people have a vote (or possibly several votes) to set the date and place?

That raises for me, the main difference between stuff like F2F, charity stuff, etc., and Official Phoenix Business -- the first group of stuff doesn't affect everyone, just a subgroup who opt in. There will be, what? 50 people at the F2F? I don't need to participate in the decision-making process around that. Procedural issues, new threads, and the like, even if I don't actively participate, affect the board which I use, so they do affect me. I think that's the difference.

Thanks for all the fish.

Jesse's hit the nail on the head, I think. Because if the F2F had an impact on me I wouldn't be all envious and bitter - hey, does that count as an impact?
