I didn't mean to kill the thread with the abiding horrors of the kyriarchy.
in one sense it would be good for some people to have a place to go.
In Japan there's a legal form of prostitution where men go into a place, lie down on a table and a woman gives them a handjob. The end. No beatings. No STDs. No pimps.
I don't know if I'm really advocating for that, but there does seem to be a direct relationship between the puritanical need to deny sexuality and the inevitable outcome being illegal, abusive, exploitive sex.
In the Netherlands they accept that people want sex, they teach sex ed at an early age, abortions are legal and affordable and they have very low teen pregnancy rates.
Oh, babe, you know I could go darker, right?(Not taking that as a challenge right now, but it really does amuse me to break up little games like" Who Would You Be In 1908?" by saying "Possibly dead, next to my dead mom." and some days not adding "bled-out" too seems like a favor to the kids. But for some of us, as much as I'd love to say "Shikse Emma Goldman", I know what I know. But if I could blow up Theme Park History at the same time, at least something worthwhile would have come from it.)
I'm on Team Netherlands, I think.
Timelies all!
Visit with Mr. S on Saturday went well.
I took today off and had a massage. It was good, if a little hard on parts of my shoulders. Of course I'm stressed again, because life.
Happiest happy birthday wishes to aurelia! I hope you are being spoiled today and that this year brings all that you hope for and more. (I have a bunch of wishes for your city too, but you know about those)
Happy birthday, Aurelia!!
Happy belated brenda Day and Happy Aurelia Day!
We are headed home. I made a huge mistake and assumed I knew my schedule for this week and it had changed because someone else went on vacation. So I was supposed to be at work yesterday but I was not . Oops.
I only realized when a coworker texted me asking if I was ok.
I got some cool souvenirs at this little shop that had local art and antiques. And I saw this bracelet that I kept looking at and I bought. I'll post a picture on FB and IG. And then I was thinking about how fun it was to wear the jewelry at the Comicon and I went on What not and I bought a bunch of colorful bracelets and some necklaces. Some were $1 with free shipping. And I bought a skirt and a pair of wide leg pants from Shein that I had seen and decided before that they were pretty but not me. However I'm going to make them me.. I know Shein is terrible and I shouldn't buy there but it's also in my budget.
I have no shoes to go with them because I only have some sandals and sneakers but there is a plus size consignment shop on the way to the comic book shop that I'm going to start stopping in and seeing what I can pick up. I think with my body type the wide leg pants /fitted top look is going to work best for me. So I'm going to lean into that with colorful, bold pants and skirts and then the plain tops. And then colorful bold jewelry.
I've thought occasionally that I'm too boring or I don't have an interesting enough life but then I remind myself I'm perimenopausal and We Do Not Care.
Happy Birthday Aurelia!
I just returned the DVD of Mary Queen of Scots to the library unwatched because I was never in the mood for it in the past two weeks. Yet somehow I find the time to watch horror movies and Marvel animation. Oh well, at least I am actually reading the story collection I checked out, so my brain's not in total spoonfed junk food mode.
...incredible original musical will have its world premiere in La Jolla next Feb...The music is SO GOOD and the book is SO GOOD.
You had me at Bear McCreary.
