Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Recovering after the long weekend. Mostly, not enough sleep thanks to Mr. S.(How did we end up with a morning person?)

Meanwhile, my mom's back in the hospital with another UTI. Poor her. Poor my dad, who is stressed out about this.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I was sufficiently spooked by the dude yesterday that I lowered all my windows enough to engage the little safety lever again.

dcp, I'm glad the results seem mostly good. Maybe have a baked potato stuffed with spinach souffle?

Sardines, anchovies, and mackerel per the calendar, my source of truth on blue-footed boobies

Fascinating! Is it just their feet, or is that the only part not covered by feathers? When I was a toddler carrots made up a high enough proportion of my diet to make me turn slightly orange.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

The only disappointing result is that my anemia is noticeably worse. Hemoglobin is down, hematocrit is down. RBC is down. ::sigh:: I suppose I'll have to increase my spinach consumption.

Have you checked/changed your B12 status recently? B12 deficiency is very common in those aged 50+ (regardless of diet) and can hide or mimic iron deficiency anemia by lowering all those markers. If you recently started taking B12, it could be you've revealed the true nature of your iron levels or, if you are deficient in B12, it might be lowering those markers on its own, though the six-week time frame for the change might make that possibility unlikely. But I do know someone whose B12 deficiency seemed to come on fairly suddenly and doctors often seem to only consider the possibility if one is vegetarian/vegan (despite something like 20% of those 60+ being deficient).

Yay for all those good values though, dcp, especially the PSA!

I am leaving on my trip tomorrow!! Ahhh am not ready. I mostly packed tonight but still need to repack and do some rearranging and stuff. Hoping I packed the right things. It’s going to be hot (Korea and Thailand) but somehow even though it was just summer here I have not enough appropriate clothes? Or something.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Have you checked/changed your B12 status recently?

Hmmm. Interesting.

The short answer is no. Never specifically checked (never actually tested, that I know of), nor recently changed. I will see if my oncologist will order the test to be included in my next labs, in six weeks.

The longer answer is that I have been taking an OTC multivitamin daily for a couple decades, and it includes a massive dose of B12. But that doesn't mean it's not passing straight through my system unused. Further, anemia seems to be very common in advanced prostate cancer patients, due to androgen deprivation therapy.

I think perhaps I over-celebrated the better-than-usual results in that part of July's lab reports, and the contrast with yesterday's worse-than-usual numbers has spooked me. It is hard not to over-react.

Our wings are not tired.

So, who is doing the NYT's Pips? I generally consider myself mathy, but I am still at the Easy level.

I am not in the office today so I will have to check the calendar tomorrow, but I don't think it went into that much detail. I am very curious about how that works, though (it's not nearly as intuitively obvious as the flamingo shrimp thing (although I would bet that what I think I know about that is probably wrong, really)) so I might have to do some off-calendar research.

That's pretty impressive you have done it yourself!

Exciting, meara! Bon voyage!

I like Pips very much, Laura! It's soothing to move the virtual dominoes around until they work

That's a lot of exclamation points when I haven't even had any coffee. Better keep an eye on you, self.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

So, who is doing the NYT's Pips? I generally consider myself mathy, but I am still at the Easy level.

I've been enjoying Pips more than I expected to! (And completing all difficulty levels, which makes it more satisfying than Sudoku.)

I love doing them. And same, Jess, re: all the levels so more satisfying than Sudoku!

It does feel nicely calibrated - like the Easy gets me ready for the Medium and Hard (she says not having done today's yet)
