Sign of summer -- the cicadas are very loud this evening.
I love that sound. The nighttime summer soundtrack of my childhood was cicadas, bullfrogs in the creek, the a/c unit humming around the side of the house, the hum in a different key of the pool filter running, and (sometimes) a transistor radio playing late 70s/early 80s top 40 music (I’m particularly remembering “Bette Davis Eyes” for some reason).

I don’t really miss cicadas but they are definitely the sound of summer for me even though I never hear them out here
