Exercise is a long game. It doesn't do much for weight loss

That's very true -- but it's so important for stamina and strength. My mom turned 79 this year and she and my stepdad went to Spain and Portugal for 2 weeks. I definitely want to have that kind of physical capacity when I'm 79. Or 59. And exercise is the way to get there and maintain it. So, losing some weight, throwing PT at my hip, and getting back to exercising without pain.

The epiphany was something like "Oooh, I can use my lower abdominal muscle now to grab my fat and roll over it."

That's pretty badass.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

That's pretty badass.

I visualized it as my bellyfat going through an old fashioned laundry wringer.

Why are there loud fireworks (that I can’t see)?? Doggo is very not happy about it.

Our wings are not tired.

Exercise is a long game. It doesn't do much for weight loss, and as the weight comes off you should be able to give your hips a break.

My ortho won't permit any weight-bearing exercise for my hips, but I have a full hour of PT that I do every other day that includes the bike for 10 minutes, then a whole bunch of lower body stretches. I do the arm and core machines on alternating days. It surely doesn't help with weight loss as it increases appetite. However, the improvement in stamina and mobility is noticeable. I am still 50 pounds away from being able to do any distance walking on the crap hip, but the shots are helping with that part.

Baseball game?

I start pt for my lower back this week. It gets sore and makes my hips tight and unhappy to walk much distance and I really want to be able to do that when we’re in Wales this fall. I really need to build up my cardiovascular stamina too.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Oh, shoot, I meant to try out a yoga class this morning but I forgot and missed it. I can try again Wednesday night

I did manage to go grocery shopping after getting by for too long on takeout and protein shakes, so that’s something. Although I may have accidentally stolen an avocado. I hope that makes it more delicious.

I have a new climbing partner, yay! (My old one retired from climbing last summer.) So I did an hour on the walls with her this morning, and then 30 minutes on a recumbent bike. And yesterday I went for an easy mountain-bike ride. Gotta get back into condition (although it would be easier if I weighed a bit less, sigh).

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Saw My Chem this weekend. That was some dark, Brechtian shit. Good times... good times... Really suited my mood nicely. Properly theatrically cathartic.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I have 2 friends (one from here, one from college) having surgical procedures today to remove cancer (breast and endometrial). Tim's second biopsy is next week. I'm just really fucking sick of fucking goddamn cancer.

Totally unrelated: out of all the electrolyte/hydration products out there, my favorite is DripDrop Hydration's lemon lime flavor. Tastes like Country Time lemonade. I should sit in the rocking chair on the front porch and sip on my electrolytes, like we did in the good old days.

Okay, but good news: I just heard back from my OB/GYN; she said that in May I was tested for HPV (Tim's cancer is HPV-positive) and my results were negative. So that's a plus.
