Almost as mind boggling as the notion that you have a college bound kid!

Why do college-bound kids need so much stuffffffffff :( :( :(
Matilda has been shopping shopping shopping to make her dorm room perfect.
We have the great advantage though of being able to throw all of it in the back of the car and being at the front of her dorm room in less than five minutes.
My 2 college roommates who have kids who started college last year (not at the same school) said their kids actually packed and moved less than they (the parents) expected, because then their kids just ordered stuff online when they got to school, because it was easier. We were all briefly bewildered and then envious, since we all met in fall of 1989, when the internet existed, but not in an e-commerce way. I may not have even gotten an email address until after I graduated from college.
Dylan and his roommate have set up a shared Google doc to make sure they don't end up with two of everything. Back in my day I didn't have any way of finding out who my roommate was or meeting them until we walked into the building!
We definitely got information about our roommates ahead of time and could communicate with them. No shared google docs though.
I got info about my roommate ahead of time but I think we had all of one awkward phone call where we discussed who would bring/buy a fridge and that was about the extent of it. We may have gone in on a rug as well, once we got to school? Not sure. We didn’t get along super well (though not too horrible, I think we barely even ran into each other on campus after freshman year)
I don't remember talking to mine first or getting information about her, but meara and I went to the same school, so I probably did (and I wasn't there THAT much before she was, ha! We did have indoor plumbing and telephone lines...)
Our dorm rooms were pretty generic looking compared to the interior-design-magazine-ready rooms I saw when my niece started college in 2016 (including hers). Those kids' rooms looked better and cozier than my first several apartments. Or, maybe all of my domiciles, including my current house.

Man, SAME. My freshman roommate and I were total gremlins. We had a pile of dirty clothes in the middle of our floor that was epic. We called it "Marjorie," after the talking trash heap in Fraggle Rock.
Oh yeah, maybe we did get in touch with each other ahead of time - I have very vague memories that she paid for the fridge and I paid for the phone?
I was in a triple and, by like November, one girl had moved in full time with her boyfriend at BC and the other had gotten kicked out of the dorms for dealing drugs. I had the room to myself for the rest of the year!
