Full day today. Dentist at 9 AM, Grocery store stop, PCP at 10:45, Nails at 1:45, then a visit to my MIL, next taking the dog to the park, then seriously packing. Tomorrow, I'm packing and cleaning to get out of here Saturday morning.
My Vit D levels have been fine in the last few labs. Probably because life, dog walks, and swimming get me plenty of sun.
My poor brother already has enough going on in his life, but more drama just got piled on. I probably mentioned a couple of years ago or so, his ex-wife sued for custody of their granddaughter based on a guardianship agreement she had when the child was a toddler, and her teen daughter couldn't take care of her. As a teen, the kid convinced her grandmother that her life was impossible, and she got moved in with my brother, despite living in an adults-only community. The ex-wife, ever a fan of lawyers, sued the community, claiming that she couldn't leave with the kid because she had to stay and take care of my brother, blah, blah. The adults' only thing is tough to enforce, so they backed down.
Anyway, the kid is 16 now and has spent the last couple of years being coddled by her grandparents and spends all her time in her room and on her devices. With all the health issues with her grandpa, emotions and tensions are on the rise there. They are an OTT emotional drama-loving bunch anyway, except my calm bro. So after a few days of sulking and being a teenager, as grandma was headed out to go back to be with grandpa at the hospital for the day, she asked the kid to get out of bed, do the dishes, and do something with her room.
Several hours later she returns, and kid is still in bed. Screaming match commences, ending up with slaps on both sides. Kid goes back to her room and calls her mom and tells her about mean grandma, mom calls the police. The police come and both parties accurately report what happened. They ask for ID, after seeing their ages they arrest the kid and carry her off to jail. Ex-SIL says she won't press charges, cop says it doesn't matter as it isn't up to her. In Florida they take senior abuse very seriously and she is over 65.
First, yes, we all know that the kid isn't abusing the grandmother, but it is 100% appropriate for the authorities to see it that way because it is a big problem here. Anyway, apparently they have come to some arrangement that the kid is back home now on house arrest or some such with mandatory counseling.
We are trying really hard to keep my brother from finding out about any of this because he will be devastated.
tl;dr Be grateful for boring lives!
Oh, my word, Laura. I'm so sorry for all of that drama. Good grief. I hope it all resolves well.
What a mess, Laura! I’m sorry all that is happening
Mmm, reuben
Huh, I wondered what would happen if my phone screen was unlocked while I was carrying it from one room to another.
Science-ing before 9a. Kudos.
My whole week is screwed up. Today is my first day in the office.
Happy Friday!
Thanks for the ride. Dana.
Slow moving this morning. My watch tells me I had a sleep score of 23, and a current body battery of 12. I still haven't managed to get out the door to take the dog to the park. He is so patient with me. Then pack-clean-pack-clean before lunch with a neighbor, followed by more cleaning and packing, and the dinner trip to the dog park, to be ready to head out in the morning.
Not enough coffee in the world. If there were a Cuban coffee vendor at the park, they would get my business. (never been that lucky, but I should do a quick search to see if one is on the route)
Ooh but you could go get Cuban coffee. For that I am jealous. Though not for the sleep score of 23! Goodness!
I was awoken by many many sirens between like 5-539am? wtf. But then fell back asleep…and woke up 45 minutes after my alarm because my phone had died and not alarmed. Oops. Luckily nbd.
I checked and there were half a dozen Cuban coffee options on my route to and from the dog park, but they were all sit-down cafe-type joints. In Miami I could just grab it from a street vendor or food truck. Since I have the dog with me a cafe wasn't a good option.
There is very little that I can say Tesla did better than Mercedes, but doggy mode is a biggie. I either have to trick the car into thinking I am still in the car and leave it running, or roll down the windows and leave it unlocked, which still doesn't work in this heat. Mercedes does not have a doggy mode because, by policy, they do not believe dogs should be left in the car. Really! That means no more routine car rides when I do errands for poor Skinner. I used doggy mode all the time.
Another notable example of underutilized technology is the lack of driver recognition and vehicle starting features. In the Tesla, you are synced via Bluetooth to your phone. As you approach it knows it is you, adjusts the seat, and unlocks. There is no start button; you just put it in drive and go. The Mercedes has a key fob, after which you choose which driver you are, and then press an actual button to start or stop the car. What!! I am so spoiled, but all of that is just readily available tech, and they could use it. My theory is that they make so much on selling key fobs that they don't want to eliminate them.
Grumbling over. Back to work.
