I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

We’re trying AI at work because we need to help our instructors understand it better. One thing we’re trying is using the AI assistant to take notes in our Zoom meetings. It has been hilariously inaccurate—frequently putting the exact opposite of what we said. I.e., we said “Tool 1 is a great substitute for tool 2. We’ll explore tool 1’s ability to do x, y, and z.” And then 20 minutes talking about tool 1. And the summary substitutes the name of tool 2 everywhere we discussed tool 1.

I gave up most sweets for Lent, except for when I was visiting others (my great nephew’s first birthday cake was not to be missed). Most of my sweet indulgences come from home baking anyway. I made a cheesecake for Easter dinner tomorrow and I’ll be making a walnut coffee cake for breakfast, and i am so looking forward to both.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

I have a cinnamon roll cake for tomorrow in the oven right now!

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

My house had been invaded by shit-flies, so I had to go to the hardware store for insecticide

"Where do you keep insecticide?"
"What for?
"Shit-flies.
"The ones that go zig zag zig? I hate those."
"Me too."
"Well, this is the strong stuff but you've got to be careful where you use it. This stuff is safer."
"Is the safe stuff effective?"
"Well...they don't like it."
"Gimme the toxic shit. I gotta kill 'em."

So now I've killed a bunch of them plus a cache of spiders that would have sent Matilda into a screaming frenzy, but my house is a little toxic and I've got dead flies everywhere.

Hec, always with the sweet talk and real-estate porn. This is what makes me happy, as a small donor today. [link]

I hope she can help Oakland. Even Jerry Brown couldn't really pull the city together.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Happy about Barbara Lee!

One of the things my company says is going to get us profitable again is leveraging AI. Hasn’t affected my job yet, although our new planning tool is telling us that AI is integrated throughout in an upcoming release, so I’m sure finding out what that means will be something. I do hear that people are using something (I don’t know what) for copywriting, especially for e-merchandising, and for packaging. Some of my coworkers use gmail’s “polishing” on emails, I guess, but we haven’t been told we ought to or anything.

Lee has her work cut out for her, but if anyone can, it'd be someone like her. I hate that yahoo has some kind of AI summarizing my e-mails.

Okay, Matilda's at the airport, she's checked her luggage. She's got her boarding pass. She just has to hang out for a few hours at her gate for her flight home.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

As the resident Oaklander, I'm pleased that it's Lee instead of the DINO Taylor, but I'm not super optimistic. It's a shit job in a shitty situation and I just hope she can stem some of the bleeding.

I want to spend less $ on cops and more on social services that prevent the need for cops, but that's an almost impossible political task. At best she will keep the MECRO team going so they can respond to non-violent social services needs.

Our wings are not tired.

Best of luck to Barbara Lee. A tough job for sure, but I like to see decent normal people in these roles.

My House district is being targeted by the GOP in 2026. The current rep won by 52%, but it is one of those bizarrely carved out districts where they have drawn it to dilute the solid blue cities as much as possible.

Happy Easter to those celebrating. Enjoy breaking free of the Lenten restrictions to those who did the thing. I have in previous years, but I just didn't bother this year. DH is still too sick for us to do much of anything today except maybe take a stroll on the beach and watch the tourists.

Yay Matilda coming home! It is wonderful that she had this experience.

My house had been invaded by shit-flies

I'm not sure know what these are, and don't think I want to either. House flies? One of the upsides to the constant ocean breeze here is that in the 2-1/2 years I have been in the condo I have never seen a single critter, ant, mosquito, fly, none. This is quite different from my previous 40+ years in Florida. I like it!
