I really needed yesterday. I could use a few more days like that, actually. With time to really talk to everyone (without jet lag and cold!). I ended up with a partial Irish goodbye because I just got a little too overwhelmed trying to leave the bar. Apologies to anyone I didn’t properly hug goodbye.
The memorial was perfect. I kept thinking about how literary and grand the stage was, and how the background looked like the Forest of Arden or the gold embossed cover of a child’s book from the 40’s. Lily and Matilda and Matilda’s dear friend Mia were the highlight speakers for me - all beautifully self-possessed, vulnerable young women who will make their stamp on this world, no doubt. And David, David. How I loved hearing your origin story! I came onto the Buffy scene about 4 months before Matilda was born. So you and Jacqueline were already a concrete couple by then. I love you and Matilda so much and I’ll be back to just hang with you two soon.
Plei is your flight at 1015? Or are you already in the air?
1986, and we're on the plane but still on the ground.
Ah, you’re stuck on the ground, I’m stuck wandering gate to gate as they delay my flight (fingers crossed it’s just the 30 min they’re currently saying, we are on our third gate)
Today is a Buffista board anniversary date. The first board started this date in 1997.
Safe travel wishes for all. I am still in my jammies sipping coffee. Flight leaves at 4:05 PDT, getting home at midnight EDT. I should think about packing up.
The efforts by David, Matilda, Juliana, Sylvie, and who knows how many others brought together an incredible event. It was just perfect in every way.
This. It was so moving and beautiful and tearful and joy-through-tears and full of love, through the screen (and the sort of watch-and-post in the youtube chat), I can only imagine how meaningful it was face to face. Thank you so much for the livestream that made it possible for me to attend from afar. Thank you so much for all of you who were able to attend and through that make it such a meaningful event.
Would anyone be interested in creating some kind of a google-drive to collect all the pictures people took all throughout yesterday?
I for one would love to see pictures, but I'm not on facebook or the like, so I was trying to think of a way around that.
Shir (I'm so grateful she could attend!) already thought this was a good idea, and obviously I would love to help (people can upload pictures straight to the drive, or e-mail me and I would upload them, or whatever works for you. I can put the link in my profile, so that only registered users may access it). What do you think?
(and the sort of watch-and-post in the youtube chat)
It was nice (and unexpected) to have that real-time connection.
I didn't watch the livestream until after the memorial was over, because I assumed (correctly) that I'd be crying a lot and needing to hit pause. So I missed the youtube chat but I'm glad youtube keeps the chat, too.
I was pretty good with the crying, except when the young people spoke. Each of them touched my heart so much.
Yesterday was just so incredibly lovely from start to finish. Waiting for a Lyft now to meet whoever is around for brunch at Boardroom (which Google says isn't open but Juliana said meet at 11 so that's my plan!)
