I've read in a couple of places that the language of the DEI notices/emails sent out by government agencies were from a template given to them, and no one was allowed to alter or edit them.

Which doesn't excuse things AT ALL, but does sound like the agencies weren't given any leeway.

Yes, my housemate here in the East Bay works for the federal Department of Health and Human Services in SF, and he got a notice exactly as JenP described.

I work for a state university, but I'm in research administration so we're directly downstream of this shitshow given how much of our money comes from federal grants. We got notices today to stop doing anything DEI-related on those grants, and I wonder how soon it will be threats to cut all our federal funding if we continue woke activities with our state and private funding.

I just read that all funding for NIH projects has been suspended -- which affects up to 300K jobs at universities and research institutes.

I'm still sick, but at least my sinuses are no longer stopped up with concrete, and I can keep my eyes open for longer than ten minutes without them watering.

I am going to run out of Kleenex, though, so I may allow myself to resort to Instacart, which feels like such a wasteful luxury, except maybe not when you're sick.
