I am also not a Twitter person, so Bluesky is not really doing it for me. But it’s a bummer seeing yet another social media break down. Damn you capitalism! You’re why we can’t have nice things!

For time wasting purposes and staying in touch with culture I am glad TikTok is back even if temporarily, but it does creep me out expecting the new turn the propaganda will take. Def not the same as keeping up with friends, either.

It giveth and it taketh away. Realistically, I don't know if we'll ever get a true replacement for FB, which had evolved into something with some serious great functionality (that's been less and less functional lately, but still exceeds the other options out there). The alternatives that are great for text suck for images and video (hosting those being $$$$$ and more fraught), and most of them have a high barrier to entry.

I'm half-assedly using Bluesky to keep up with some people, but as someone who never loved Twitter, it's still not my jam. I do have reblogs turned off, which helps weed out the political stuff that I just do not want to see anywhere. (Sorry, but I have come to believe that posting about politics ad nauseam or reblogging political posts all the time or reading any of the above does more harm than good.)

Jesus FUCKING Christ. People in my neighborhood had actual KKK flyers posted on their door today. One with a drawing of Uncle Sam kicking a family with the words "LEAVE NOW Mass Deportation January 20, 2025," and another flyer with "Tri-State* Konklave Saturday February 15, 2025: the Trinity White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan is hosting a Tri-State Konclave. Other Klans and like-minded people are welcome to attend. Good food, fellowship, speeches, and Knightrides."

I'm officially fucking terrified.

It happened basically as soon as 47 was sworn in. Clearly on purpose. I'm ready to punch some racist motherfuckers.

I'm not looking at FB as much but I do check in because I have relatives who use it

M deleted TikTok and is just acting like it never came back. He mostly watched video game content and some political stuff and would argue with people.

He downloaded Red Note and so far is just watching animal videos. He has run across a few Tiktok refugees but he doesn't pay attention to that. It's mostly "look!!! It's so cute !!.....look!! The monkey in its little hat !! Red Panda!! It's so fluffy!" So his mood is a lot better.

And there is a whole lot of monkeys taking things from people which he has dubbed "Evil Monkey" videos and made a theme song for them and narration and commentary.

It's cold today. So we are hanging out on the couch and staying warm.
