Timelies all!
It's been a weird week at work. Monday and Tuesday we were officially closed, but I'm an essential worker so I went in both days. Monday I managed to get in 20-30 minutes later than normal in spite of having dug out my car and the fact of the crappy roads. There were only two of us the whole morning. We got sent home around 1:15. Tuesday I had a doctor's appointment at 10 (moved from 8) and got in around 10:30. Stayed the rest of the day.
Yesterday was a normal day and today we are closed.
Brother says it's very, very unlikely that the fire would reach their house, but they've moved to a hotel anyway because of smoke.
I'm making an effort to give Discord an honest try, but I'm not finding it easy
Safety vibes for your brother and family, Dana.
I need to update the Buffista list on Bluesky. My project for tonight? Yes, if I can remember how you add to it. sigh
It's been a weird day between the fires there and the snow and ice here and Carter's funeral amid it all.
I’m moving all my data off FB and shutting down my account. I think Bsky is goingbto be it for me.
This is what I'm thinking, although I love Instagram. I'll put Buffista in my profile now on Bluesky.
All kinds of love to everyone, and safety vibes for all, as well.
I am pissed off at Instagram because my feed is now 60% algorithm instead of people I follow, and it's not in chronological order. So by the time I see the post about the cool Korean pop-up at the beer garden around the corner, it's for three days ago.
I have the day off and probably should have worked, because TFG says he is gonna freeze hiring on day 1, and I am in the middle of hiring someone I desperately need. (I wonder if the Executive Order would forbid transfers? Two of the candidates are already federal employees.)
I’m on Bluesky under my non-fannish identity, but I’m happy to repost fannish stuff.
We’re expecting a couple of inches of snow tomorrow, but it’s MI in January, so no big deal.
I hope the winds are dying down in CA.
Ugh new fire in LA.
My brother, far far from the fires got an evac warning. It was a mistake sent out to a wider than meant list. Ffs.
This is fucking awful.
I'd be bitching louder about temps in the teens and 40mph wind gusts here these past couple days -- wicked and nasty -- but then I realize how much worse it could be.
My furnace is keeping up with the demand, and my car's heat is also good.
My friend Christie lost just about everything (except spouse, car, and pets) in the Paradise fire a few years back, and I bet the fire situation is giving her traumatic flashbacks. Me, whose aunt's family's vacation home on the Jersey Shore was essentially destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, that's enough to give me echo trauma, even if many thing turned out to be salvageable -- it's a psychic wound, when so much of "home" is lost.
