Natter 78: I might need to watch some Buffy for inspiration
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place.
Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I didn't sleep well, so a short nap at 11 seemed like a good idea. Three hours later I woke up, realized I'd slept through phone calls, because I'd made vague plans to go over to a friend's. They ended up coming over to my place, I did a partial White Tornado run around the living room and kitchen.
This is a good way to start off a new year, anyway. Here's hoping the rest of 2025 will continue this trend for me and my friends here and IRL.
Happy new year, all!! I am so glad I took off today and tomorrow -- I am barely feeling recovered from my fall and holidays, yikes.
Re: Crossword tournament, I was thinking I could show up Saturday morning, but Stamford is farther than I thought! So I will go Friday night, but probably not sign up to compete in the Friday stuff. Excite!!
We are starting the new year (or at least the first business day of the new year) with a plumber fixing a broken water line in the bathroom. He says it's an easy fix, so fingers crossed that it remains that way and he doesn't uncover a more complicated problem!
I was going to grumble about this and say "what a way to start the new year," but I've decided to be positive and just be glad we could get a plumber out so quickly, and that it's an easy fix.

That's the ticket.
Trying to roust myself to get out the door and run. It's a clear sunny day so I have no excuses.
I have to bear down and finish my travel plans with Matilda today. We're going in three weeks!
So soon! Exciting!

I'm back in the office, at a bit at a loose end since the expected cutover did not happen for my team's particular, uh, instance? Hanging out with my folks was very low key and relaxing, we ended up watching the SF fireworks on TV at midnight and the London NYD parade that I did not know was a thing on the first. Black-eyed peas and beet greens for luck (mom had what seemed like a lot of beet greens left from making borscht but they cooked down to not very much as is the way of greens, but a nice bright green, so it should count, right?) Managed to not see the news at all (except some on my phone) so that was nice
As much as I would like to, I don't think the crossword thing is realistic for me. Getting there and getting home would take more time and money than I want to think about. But I want to hear all about it and live vicariously through buffistas!

The water is turned off, but fortunately I have therapy in 45 minutes, so I can go early and use the bathroom there!
Vicarious puzzling for -t!
I am thinking the same as Jesse re: timing. Guess I'll go sign up! This is awesome.
Running plans waylaid as I now have plans for a phone call with Josh's first wife, Jenny. I haven't talked to her in decades, but we had our own friendship (she also went to Kenyon) so I'm looking forward to hearing her voice again.
A gaggle of Matilda's friends came over last night to admire the Guinea Pigs and I helpfully steered them to the boxes of See's Candy in the house so they could save me temptation. They were a ravening horde, a locust swam of chocoholics.
Which was pleasing. I don't like throwing out the candy but I do like to get all the sweets out of the house by the time I take down the tree, which will probably be Monday.
