My mom called me on Saturday to make our Thanksgiving plans because my dad was scheduled for cataract surgery on Monday and she figured she wouldn't want to have to do a lot of thinking and planning this week. We decided we're want a turkey if she can find one that isn't huge - they are both mostly vegan but we have been making exceptions for Thanksgiving for the last few years ostensibly so I can have turkey but they both have some, too and largely so we can all enjoy making turkey soup and have our stuffing actually in the bird. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago they were trying to donate a turkey to one of the nonprofits my dad volunteers at who had asked for whole turkeys and they went to several grocery stores looking for one and couldn't find any! Just turkey breasts. So hopefully that was just a timing thing and we aren't in for a great turkey shortage.
I am having a Friendsgiving sandwich for lunch from Ike's Love and Sandwiches which is turkey and stuffing and cranberry and sriracha - a bit more sriracha forward than I was expecting but still quite tasty
I know I am totally unprepared for the atmospheric river but I'm not doing anything about it. Shrug.
Re: the Federalist and all that - still feel weird about being on the same side of anything as Dick Cheney, so, yeah
No river here at the moment but we are supposed to have wild winds tonight. I rarely lose power because I’m right near a substation but better prepare I guess.
We're expecting heavy rain to start hitting us tomorrow with an "atmospheric river" that will last days.
Snow (or at least a wintery slushy mess) is forecast for later this week. Do not want. Fortunately, my new winter boots got delivered today, so at least my feet will stay warm and dry.
I don't think I know what an "atmospheric river" is.
Did a muscular development class yesterday and an aqua fit class today.
Oh my god, yesterday I added some bodyweight exercises (squats, etc) to my bike routine, and my muscles are cranky about it. Shit just gets progressively harder the older we get. Lordy have mercy.
Doctor. Fucking. Oz?!?!?!?!?!?
We are all gonna die.
In an attempt to get back to my daily gym schedule that I was on up north I have gone to a couple gyms here the last couple days. Did a muscular development class yesterday and an aqua fit class today.
Right the fuck on! The award for today's Excellence In Body Movement goes to Laura. Gold star!
Go gym-istas!
I’m getting my exercise from packing and taking out amazing amounts of trash and recycling. I’m also glad that I’m moving on the 25th, rather than the 23rd that I’d been shooting for, as that gives me another weekend for packing. Packing, packing, all is packing.
and an aqua fit class today
Aqua fit sounds fun -- is it fun?
Doctor. Fucking. Oz?!?!?!?!?!?
Seriously, the clown car is most impressive.
Packing more than counts as exercise.
Aqua fit sounds fun -- is it fun?
It is! The best part is being in the pool and not getting all sweaty. The instructor this morning was a hoot. Lance was wearing mid-thigh length skin tight leopard print shorts and had an abundance of tattoos from his time in the Navy. By the time the class was over we heard about his dad leaving Texas and moving to Naples next week, and this restaurant, and the art show at that place, and his birthday Thursday. He was chatty chatty. Most all the others were regulars.
The class yesterday had a fun activity toward the end of the Full Hour torture class. 14 of us in a circle tossing a ball around the circle, one direction then the other, then she kept adding balls until we had 5 of them going. Fetch, toss, fetch, toss until we all were in stitches and started getting clumsy. It was a twist the middle exercise.
Our pho place called at 2.30 and said "We're closing at 4 to give everyone the chance to get home safely; we need you to pick up your order by then." The Port Townsend/Coupeville ferry route stopped running 15 minutes ago, and one of the boats on the Edmonds route has already tied up for the night. I'm hoping I can get the sheets dry before the power goes out.
... and a large branch just came down on the patio. We're all right, but this is going to be an unnecessarily exciting evening.
