Our wings are not tired.

Productivity today as well! Did 2 loads of laundry. Packed for heading to my sister's later today. Took the dog to the park. Coffeed and fed myself. Ordered stuff needed for house. Printed out the gym class schedule for THREE gyms on sister's side of state and downloaded my Silver Sneakers card. And did all my NYT and MS games to in theory feed my brain.

Now I really should finish packing and get on the road.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

I am 100% unproductive today because I woke up in the middle of the night and threw up. Was it the greasy Chinese food? I don't know. I still feel like hell and haven't eaten anything yet today and might just go back to bed.

But last night's fruitcake (guys) and pedicure (gals) and Chinese food (everyone) extravaganza was great. My toenails are blue again, which is my One True Pedicure Color.

Well done!

That part sounded great. NSM the barfing and crapulence.

I did not run this morning, but did get up instead of faffing around in bed. Made myself an omelette and just did a long phone call with a friend, planning for her to come out to visit in the new year.

It's good to have near term things to look forward to.

Now my day is open, but I'm going to run the dryer one more time and unload the dishwasher (a weird sticking point that has developed, sort of like folding clothes and not putting them away). My nails need a touch-up. That might be my indulgence.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

reminder that RealID goes into effect this May

I could renew my DL online if I didn't bother with the RealID. I do need to renew my passport though. It doesn't expire until 2026, but I don't want to wait.

I was supposed to host my parents for Thanksgiving, but it turns out I'll be on my own. My mom had surgery yesterday to remove a kidney, so they won't be traveling for a while.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Yesterday was a lot of goodbyes. My book group threw me a farewell lunch, which was lovely. Then my geek neighbors came over for one last Saturday of food, booze, chatting and media. I’m going to miss all of this.

Today I’m planning to pack the good glassware, the last of the office random crap, the less used electronics, and the good dishes. The good dishes are already largely packed—I just need to get their storage boxes into sturdier moving boxes.

I’m already over this move, and there’s still a week to go. Definitely looking forward to having moved, though.

This is when your life needs to go into movie montage mode so that the last of the packing and then the moving can just happen all at once, with a nice filter on it and some uplifting background music.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Yikes, aurelia! I know several people with only one kidney who do well, so here's fingers crossed.

Yesterday was a memorial service for one of our long-time and distinguished residents, so I came in (paid time!) to drive a bunch of them to the service and a brunch afterwards. Nick was the journalist snatched by the KGB as a "spy" and held for a couple weeks during the Cold War, and that was only an interesting sidelight to his life. Most of the speakers were journalists or academics, so the reminiscences were so well-written that I'd have had to work hard to lose attention.

All of the residents who came were cool people, so it was a pleasure to escort and when necessary aid them, though the 96yo and 99yo were pretty damn spry. The brunch had a couple yummy vegan options, too, and something I hadn't come across before, trout mousse!

That ate up a lot of Saturday. I did some cursory searching for my errant birth certificate, mostly knocking loose a lot of dust and dumping a ton of paper in the recycling.
